  1. Thats not good ...

  2. Did the balljoint fall out?

  3. Yes.

I was lifting the spindle with a floor jack to put the suspension rubber stop in place, when the floor jack slide. It gave a good whack to the spindle and suspension arms, but I was not expecting to see the balljoint falling out!
They are 10 years old Febi Bilstein that I had, pressed in last November and installed today.

The moon was so bright last night

No street lighting or flash - just moonlight. Nature is amazing.

Just after lunch my father in law popped round as he was giving his MG a bit of a spin. I missed him as it was a flying visit and I was pottering in the back garden at the time. Anyway, 15 minutes later the good Lady Norris and myself were just off to the supermarket in the car, came out of our road, to find my father in law parked up.

Of course we stopped to see what was up. It was firing on only two cylinders. Now also bear in mind that my mother in law is at home alone, and has dementia. So Mrs Norris goes off to sit with her mum while I lend a hand.

He got his tools out (so handy to have a built in toolbox under the hood) and took out the spark plugs - steam, steam, steam, water. Obviously the head gasket has gone. Off comes the rocker cover, to find the some of the head bolts had worked loose during it's 8 mile round trip. So he nips those up and turns it over again. Nope, still water spraying out of the number 1 plug hole. So then he starts dismantling more stuff.

It took rather a lot of persuasion to get him to put the spanners down and let us push him round the corner to our house - mainly to get off the bus route! It then took a lot more persuasion that it wasn't going anywhere today, and we really did need to go shopping. The dismantling can continue tomorrow within easy reach of my garage and the tools therin

    Anyway, yes, a photo...

He will sort it out, but will need to order another head gasket. He's got another TA that he's just put the engine in, towards the end of the restoration - not Tickford coach built though like the one above.

He puts me to shame with the progress on my engine
