Of course they can , however

he hasn’t set the end float , could very readily be to small and give the impression of a seized solid engine will take 2 minutes to check

Well it’s obvious what to do

stop working immediately, go to the engine , we neeeeed to know

  3. Literally everything is crossed for this...!

  4. I’ve got a speed awareness course tomorrow (don’t know why, I’m well aware of speed which is why I’m on the course..) so might try to get off that early and get over there, depends what comes in to work overnight

  6. Can someone explain the purpose of setting the end float and how it’s achieved. I wasn’t aware that it could be set, Ive alway thought that end float was just a symptom of a worn bottom end, indicating excessive wear of the crank/bearings etc. I wasn’t aware its an adjustable thing. Does a brand new rebuilt engine still have play on the pulley then?

Essentially it’s because of machining tolerances , they had to add or remove shins to get the desired amount of end float, it is adjustable, however a worn engine wears the case away creating the same end float for a different reason, this wear cannot be shimmied out , all engines do have end float

  8. Ah I see. Thank you. So I wasn’t entirely right, its the case thats wearing as opposed to the crank/bearings

Yeah the crank to bearing tolerance is still fine technically so will still run , but the rear bear wears the back of the case

  10. Nice one. Thank you.

There are some things you can do to help reduce endfloat wear and tear.

Don't start the engine with your foot on the clutch.

Don't sit at the lights in gear.

Avoid "holding it" on the clutch.

  12. There's literally no chance of getting out of a speed awareness course early unless you can fake a heart attack and get carted off in an ambulance.
Even then it's marginal whether they would let you out:D

  13. I think you are being very unfair. They’d definitely let you out. But they’d post a guard at the end of your bed and drag you straight back to the classroom once they’d shocked your heart back into rhythm

Can you not just put a cardboard cut out of yourself in front of the laptop, while you spend the afternoon cruising in your bus?

  16. ^this!

Use my trick and say your Internet connection isn't good enough to turn on video, then you can go and get on with something interesting!

  18. I’d love to, but it’s not quite running just yet :p

mines on Zoom too, had to take 1/2 day off to do it so if we can all sit up and pay attention like good little children, maybe teacher might let us out for playtime and I can get over and look at this damn engine!
