As you probably guessed, I, and others like watches. Love the ‘Homages’, as no way could I ever get a ‘Real’ one. Prices seem ridiculous, just for something to tell you what the time is, I.e Rolex, and other luxury brands. Bit even if you had lots of disposable income, would you still spend your money on something that lets you know when to have your lunch/appointment or next batch of pills?
Not that daft ... Matey isn't a rich man but a couple of times a year he'd get a bonus so would buy a good watch or piece of artwork he liked" for a rainy day ". He's 62 now and looking at retirement so the 2 grand Rolex bought 15 years ago is now 20k and he's got about 20 "knocking around" .. He had a genuine Banksy print bought years ago for 500 quid which recently sold for 66k. He's no way into art or watches as an investment , only buying what he really likes for usually less than a grand but it's paying off in the long run . Out of interest, anyone recognize this one ... ? Or maybe the signature...? Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
Agreed , if it wasn't by Frank Sinatra it'd be worth nowt ... (Although I really like it..) Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
Are watches still a thing? I thought everyone just used their smart phones now . Anyway - wearing a Rolex walking down the street, aren't you just asking to get mugged.
Guitar collectors get my goat. They don't even play them, yet a strat you could by in 1980 for £500 is now £30-60K. I wish they'd collect bad ones if they're just going to hang them up and show them off.
Good design and quality never go out of fashion which is why T2s are so enduring .... Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
I suppose an automatic watch dosnt have to rely on being charged up like an Apple Watch or phone, so it would be more reliable and not dependable on nuclear power. Dunno if Greta’s got one. I find them fascinating though, as a gardener, because pretty much of everything that make an automatic watch work, is mined from the ground, then crafted into what it is. Pretty clever, really. I suppose the better the crafting, the more reliable at keeping the time. But I do think that a Swiss ETA movement costing far more than a NH34 movement seems daft, just for a few seconds accuracy compared to say a quartz movement. But again, that needs a lithium battery.
