The journeys end. Well, after debating things for some time and finally admitting I could not get my Wife to camp in her, I have today sold Rhubarb, err Swapped her to be totally honest. The most frustrating thing about owning her has been Lou's reluctance to come camping in such a cramped space, great when we were younger, but as time has gone on we have had to face the obvious, she was just too small. as wonderful as she has been, we were spending our precious weekends apart, Will and I would head off into the hills for a lads weekend and mum would sit at home watching tele and entertaining the myriad of guests that descend on us at the weekend. There we were with very little time to escape the mayhem that is our life and when the opportunity arose we did it as a seperated family. Something had to give! I was very impressed with the Fiat and Peugeot type motorhomes we have camped next to over the years, but could not really take to the modern compact all singing all dancing utility of them, so evaded Lou's heaped praise every time we saw one. I just couldn't give up my beloved bay for mdf cupboards and blandness, I had been there with the bongo. Oh what to do? A few weeks ago Glyn Tbr put up a picture of a LT50 Woodlander that he took at Eastnor Castle. I was intrigued, a lorry ( LT 50 = lasten transporter 5 ton) I liked it and was determined to find out more.. Two weeks ago, that very same camper appeared on the old bay of fleas and the owner ( another Glyn) wanted to swap her and his 68 beetle for a bay. I contacted him right away. The rest is now history. I own the beetle and the LT camper - he owns Rhubarb. Things move on. Rhubarb has been an adventure, a ball ache and friend, she has taken us to meet some very cool friends and through her I have experienced the friendship of you guys, yes even you Doug . Me n Will have had a ball in her, she has never let us down and has sheltered us even in the most inclement weather. But she has a new owner now. I wish him the very best of luck and hope she treats him as well as she has treated us and vice versa.
That is epic - nice one. 5 tons! Anyone who passed their test after about 1996 can't drive that, it's too heavy. In France, I waved at all the lorry drivers waving, giving us thumbs up or doing the v-dub hang loose hand signal.
Yep me too. Unfortunately it has to be sold. We have two beetles a doka, a mk1 mx5 and micra. Lou says the beetle has to go!
The Lt is pure class mate. 68000 mile from new, blown air heating, hot water. toilet. shower, grill, fridge, cooker , 3 ring hob. 5 berth, waste water system - the works. full electric zig system. And it's a very well made very retro VW. Everything works and it drives like new. all receipts from new and all the makers instructions for everything. The owners have really looked after her, and the last owner did her proud. The hot air fan for the cab heater doesn't work though!
fair play it does look like you've done well out of the deal i guess, i have no idea how much one of those or a beetle is worth but both of them for yours i'd be happy (no offence) i can understand your point of doing it my lu would have me do the same if she could and i've made no secret of missing the space i had in a caravan but i can't imagine life without a bay now.
I still have a bay Rick. I just had to make a decision and this one was the only one that floated my boat. I was still unsure, but Neils gf wanted the bug. whether she has it or not I don't know yet. Rubharb never let me down, was solid and this winter would have gone from weather beaten to shiner with new front panel etc if I had have kept her, she wasn't far off, and the new owner will do it as I told him all her bad bits and he was happy, I was gutted to see her go, really gutted, but eh oh- life moves on!
