Respray costs??

  1. Hi,

I am looking for a respray to my lat bay & wondered what costs you had experienced...

So I can work out how much I need to save, please can you send me a note with how much I should expect a respray to cost.

    Thanks

  2. Hello Mr Rosberg.

In answer to your question: How long's a piece of string?

Are you having a basic rub down and prepping it yourself? I guess you'd be looking at £750 to £1000.

Or, do you have rust issues, less so than the average bus and you want a paint shop to do all the prepping and repairs? I'd guess you'd then be looking at £3500, depending on the amount of rot.

Or, do you have no rust issues at all and want the paint shop to do all the prepping for you and take it back to bare metal, then you'd be looking at £3500. Increase that by another £2000 if you want all the interior and engine bay stripped to metal and repainted.

And none of the above include welding or new panels.

And, one paint shop might quote £1000 less than another. That often happens. But, for the one to do it £1000 cheaper, they'll spend 35 to 40 less hours on it. You get what you pay for.

So, how long is your piece of string? Exactly what sort of job are you after? Exactly what condition is your bus in?

  3. ^ indeed very true

  4. exactly what Baydreams said :) ^^

It all depends on how much work you can do your self

If you can do all the fillering and priming it should bring the cost down

but I'd say any where from 1K for a cheap job to 4K for show winner paint ......so any where in between depending on how much work there is involved.

If your bus is on the road it might be worth taking it to a few places for a quote, you should get to see some of their work and to what standard it is while your there :)

  5. Same as all the above

I've just been quoted £1000-£1500 to prep and a quick blast of paint ( won't last very long, but it will look ok for a few months)

And 2 quotes of £2000-£2500 for windows out, prep and spray, which will last longer and look better

  6. Unfortunately more than I thought.... :(

Would anyone on this forum be able to do the prep work for me & then i'll take to a professional for respray?

The van has a little rust (under the doors) a little around the roof rim & by the rear bumper - but not a huge amount.

    Whats the method for priming?

Is it a case of rubbing rust down with wire brush
    filling holes

  8. I'd be careful getting the van prepped by someone else before taking it to a paint shop... I very much doubt that you'd get any kind of guarantee from them...

    I know I certainly wouldn't give a guarantee, and TBH I probably wouldn't take on a pre-prepped job

For one, paint reactions could occur... that's a back to bare metal and start again job

another is in 6 months time when a blister comes through, that's something you can't simply get fixed under warranty

Just so you understand where your money is going...

paint for a van is going to come in at around £500, then there's materials... sand paper, masking tape, masking materials, filler... soon starts adding up

  9. i spent 200 quid on paint and preping the bottom half, and payed my m8 200 to spray it.
was gonna the top this year. but put it on hold
if you want a quote i'll give you his number. but as peeps have said what are you looking at.. how solid is your bus.

  10. It's pretty solid, I'm going to get the underside of the van all cleaned up and waxoyl'd and look to get the bodywork sorted, which is in pretty good condition, but I agree needs a little work.
Where abouts are you based pmacs 49? I'd like someone to have a look over the van with more experience than I have to help me.

    Thanks all

  14. Anyone know of good places to go in Hamps Berkshire area forthe prep and spray job?

  15. cheaper to let the body man do the whole job , cause if you have no body work experience , you l balls the whole job up , body prep is very time consumening and expensive , 90% of the work a good body man will do is in the prep alone, your finish relys on this , if you do your own then spray it and make a balls of that then the body man who comes after you has ten times more work to do to rectifiy your mess and its costs even more , leave it to them that no s best failing that GO FOR IT , lol owen nw
