Replacement Gearbox

  1. Agreed, it’s a specialist job for sure, and if they’re doing a full strip and assessment with no guarantee that the customer will agree to get the work done, then maybe it’s justified.
I phone the bloke who does mine up and describe the symptoms to me and he tells me what’s wrong, then I get him to fix it. If he finds anything else while he’s in there he lets me know how much it’ll be.

I’m interested my gearbox needs looking at in a month or so.
I was going to get a TES one but would much rather have someone who’s comes recommended do it.

  3. Who do you use, Fletch? Or is it a secret ;)?

  5. Just to update this thread I sent the gearbox to Bears Motorsport. The gearbox is now back in the camper and all works well

  6. Obviously a lot depends on the condition and performance of the ancillaries, linkages etc, but when you say all works well - are you really pleased, or just better than before?

    The price sounds ok.

  10. Ah - I didn't notice the initial deposit deduction!

  11. I had several choices to make, a unknown second hand box for between £300-£600, one from TES engines for £799 or after recommendations Bears Autosport who stripped it and told me what they found before doing anymore work. Choices had to be made, I've was happy with there work, communication and all was done it the time frame given.

  16. John Walklett did my Bug's box, it was proper fecked, it needed a rebore and a new R&P. I brought the ratios of 3rd and 4th down to match the new R&P ratios and had the diff gears replaced, which is fairly standard for a 'box that's been drag raced, it was about £800, it took ages, but to be fair some of which was me procrastinating over ratios
