For those who didn't see my van thread, i replaced a side window rubber, the old one was shrunk and chalky but sat above the filler strip (black piping) when i fitted the new one it's obviously new and soft and hasn't shrunk so it's sitting over the piping - i've removed the 2 screws under the track cover but i can't budge the cover to take it off.... help!

  2. its on the v section isnt it... so you have to lift the track cover up.

and seeing as the rubber is sitting ontop it will be pushing it back down.

maybe heat up the rubber with hairdryer then lift the cover off slowly?
as not to damage the v section or rubber

EDIT: dont know if that helps.. but seeing as your abit more of a seasoned VW vet you probably tried that.. haha

  3. I bent back the fittings that hold the screws, then gave it a good thump upwards with the flat on my hand with the help of Mrs K to catch it.

I guessed it probably lifted up or twisted up and off but i didn't want to bugger it up trying.... (that's a lie - i was all ready to rag it until Moons talked me in to asking on here first...) the new rubber is plenty flexible enough to move so i'll have a look next time i go to the van.

ok cheers chaps, i can't picture the fittings now but i get your point it needs to go up to come out - i just hope it will go back down over the new seal.

  7. On the slider side, as I recall, there's a further bolt inside the van, close to the rear of the slider - sure someone'll tell you exactly where it is. This needs to come out. Have a look on Ratwell.

Once that's done, you'll need a length of wood under the track to knock it upwards - the rubber trim grips it quite hard. No need to bend any tabs.

You won't like what you find under there :(...

Took one off a mates a few weeks ago that had the third fixing as snotty says. We thought someone had bodged it! It was right up by the slider aperture end and went through the side of the bus.

third screw is a long bolt though from the inside of the C post with a nut on the outside. It's right at the front at the top.

Just joking bud , they seal themselves to the ruddy van after time , so: has the window rubber is now sitting on top and presuming you have taken all the screws out ? i would juggle it a little to break the seal at the back of the rubber strip - not much because it doesn't hold that tight but enough !

or take the window out and knock it upwards with the palm of your hand !
