Rear brakes what to change

  1. Take a look at this mate, probably save you some time

  2. Remove the two 10mm bolts, tap around the drum with a soft faced mallet and give it a wiggle and it should pop right off :)
had mine off today and thats how I did it

Keep turning the drum and tap it on the rim with a hammer (copper hammer ) is not a bad idea , if the brakes are poorly adjusted and free as you turn the drum the should pull off ....if not slacken the adjuster off a few nibs and it should come off and all will be revealed .

  4. Guys this thing just went come off. is it a matter of hitting until it does?

  5. Somethings not right as when I'm turning the drum it's moving the drive shaft as well. I assuming it shouldn't do this?

  6. I'm not expert, but yes, it should.

It's the drum that moves with the wheels/driveshaft.

It's the shoes and caliper and the like that stay still.

  7. Yes.
Or carefully prise it off with a large flathead screwdriver.

  8. Handbrake IS off I take it? lol
Might need to back the star adjusters off a few clicks then give the drum a few love taps to free it up

  9. Yep handbrake off. Drum moves freely. Smashing this thing and it's going nowhere

  10. I'd weigh it in then.....obviously farked lol

  11. There may be a little bolt that needs undoing first. On the front of the drum. Have you undone that?

  12. Not a cross over is it? im giving advice based on the assumption its a composite drum lol if its the one piece type then the hub nut has to come off

  13. Same here...

  14. I believe these are already taken out as I have Fuchs. As per video is this what to mean?

  15. Ah yes. Just seen the video.

Drum can get stuck on because
The shoes need slacking off. If this is the case the drum will move a bit then get stuck.
Rusted/tight in the centre and not moving at all. More difficult. Hammer. If really going nowhere, put the wheel back on, lower back to floor, handbrake on, castle nut off.
Jack up again and remove wheel then pull the drum complete with hub off the splines. Tap with a hammer and it'll fall out easy as you like, infuriatingly.

  17. Yep thats exactly what's happening it's stuck to the centre. Will give another go tomo. Don't really want to see what's underneath!

  18. Zed I cant this drum to move no matter how hard or long I hit it. Im trying to understand exactly what you meant on your last post. Could you break it down in a dummie version please.

The bit that does the sticking is where the drum meets the end of the axle. Try hitting the side of the drum hard while pulling it away from the bus on the other side.

you are trying to make the drum go elliptical for a fraction of a second as you hit it so the rust in the gap crumbles.
I have also had a bit of success putting a longer 7mm(unless you go to a proper supplier you will not find one) diameter bolt in one of the holes and hitting the end of it.

And when it does start it may only move a tiny bit and need a lot more rocking and hitting.
