Recently told by the optician that I need reading glasses or bi/varifocals. Got my reading glasses from Aldi for £2.50. Hadnt got my prescription with me, so was going through the different glasses working out which was better till I got to the right ones!
Hey Malc, I`ve had real spensive ones and cheapso ones, as long as it`s just reading and your eyes are even (ish) then cheapso are as good. Lidl do some from 1.00 to about 3.50 in a cracking little metal case for £1.99 and I`ve got some everywhere, a couple of sets in the car some in the bus some in the garage. The case makes them last. Try not to use them as much as possible, because once you need them for reading and start relying on them, that`s how it gets worse. Most peeps need readers at some stage, usually 45 to 55 years old, my long sight is still brill yunt. Apparrantly as we get older, our lenses get tougher and harder and our eye muscles just cant stretch that old lense so we can`t focus very well, so we need to use readers gogs or have our lenses chopped out with a rusty machete and a nice new artifishy set nailed in with an arc welder and some super glue. Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Either way,,, we is getting old
Why not just go to Boots or Superdrug, they have a big selection of off the shelf reading glasses. Its simple, choose your style, choose your magnification try them out and buy them. Off the shelf glasses are just as good quality and cheap too. That's what I did.
Are they as good though? I have been told today that they can have a adverse effect if they are not prescription!
Hmm. I made mistake of buying a prescription pair, then realised cheapos are just as good. They're only magnifying lenses.
I wear them for reading and close work, trouble is one eye is near perfect and one quite bad so I can't buy off the shelf cheapo ones
In my world ,go specsavers ,have eyetest, get cheapest glasses , go home and find something better to do... I get the other glasses (driving) every two years ,I just send mrs lef..
I would agree that once you start wearing glasses that you tend to rely more on them, but it's not a case of your eyes getting worse. It's more a case of them relaxing, and you no longer automatically squinting to see. So if you need them, wear them. You only get one pair of eyes.
I get cheapie ones from local chemist. I buy a few pairs at a time as I need them for work, and to read, so throw a few pairs in all my vehicles. Cos they are plastic and I drop them or rub them with grubby hands they scratch and have to get chucked out every so often. When I first went to opticians in Spain the cheapest pair were €120, metal frames, soon after to be permanently bent after the van cupboard door squashed them . I think I'm due another proper eye test just to check my eyes then I will be back to cheapos. A friend was on holiday in India and got lots of cheap prescription ones if you're ever out that way
Try 'glasses direct', online cheapos but prescription. They send frames out for you to try too, I think. Never used them but a friend has.
So I'm getting confused about the difference between "Prescription" reading glasses, and some cheap ones you buy that are the correct strength. I'm suspecting that the difference is the price you pay
