Thats also an instance of the "I am going to do exactly what was requested" school of operations .. Each person in the chain does exactly what they were told to do. The painter may have noticed things, but realised they werent going to get paid unless they painted the vehicle. <edit> although reading that comment above, looks like this time the painter is more capable of spotting rubbish workmanship (? workmanMarmite) than the person chosen to do the welding. Even when I did my rubbish high speed wheel arch repair the other day there were probably 10 or 20 times more weld spots made along the metal, it was almost continuous. ... And its mine, it cost me 1/4 cylinder of gas, some welding wire, some tin sheet and a few hours... I dont mind a wheel arch with a lot of filler in it, it will be easier to pick apart later...
Sounds really good…..but, like most multi discipline jobs don’t they all just blame the person/persons who touched it before them. But yes, if each stage of the work was passed by the expert and accepted by the next person yes. Lots and lots of “ not happy with that “ scenarios…..As for it being a nice job, not too sure.
Where do you see welds? I see rice crispies stickied on sheet metals. I did all the welding on my bay, and I learned to weld along the way. But, If I did a such job, I would just start it again.
'Grinder and paint make me the welder I ain't', only they didn't even bother with the grinder and paint
I feel relieved it looks worse than mine...oh wait I cant weld for love nor money. I think I could do better than that though!
If they had only used car asssembly metal to metal adhesive and clamped it while it cured, instead of welding it it would probably be twice as good. Its amazing how sticky that stuff is - pity it flexes and causes cracks in filler above it..
You have to admit that as rubbish as it is, whoever did it was brave enough to try. There’s a few that arnt…
Like this? £thousands were paid for this. I redid it all, painted it and reassembled for LESS than was charged for the above. Oh dear.
A bit like the original van in this thread, the perps claimed it was ready to paint, but not only the above bad repairs, also half the rust hadn't even been looked at... etc etc. They did a good job of warping this panel... and lining these up... and welding to make things impossible to clean up or fill... What they excelled at was phoning her once a month to ask for more money. They didn't bother with inner panels or joining things together either... ...and they were a well established Devon Moonraker specialist, picked for that reason. That's all - I know you like disaster pictures/stories to cheer you up about your own buses. I must admit I read threads on here sometimes where someone's bus isn't running very well after a visit to the garage and I think... is that all? You were lucky!
Exactly - they knew she was a long way away and milked her bank account. Then they delivered it by smashing the rear fog and fancy number plate chucking off a trailer with unsuitable ramps, denied they'd damaged it despite the pieces of van on the floor and tried to winkle another few hundred quid out of her for storage and delivery! I insisted she told them to do one - she wanted to pay! I'd name and shame but I'm not 100% sure of the company name.
