Push Rod Tubes

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Chris G, Feb 9, 2013.

  1. Is it ok to reuse pushrod tubes on a t4 engine with new rubber seals as i just noticed new ones still have a squash up bit each end but i thought the rubber was making the seal, just dont wanna spend 50 quid on a push rod tube kit unless i really need too.

The ones with a concertina at each end are for T1 engines.
I'd reuse your existing ones with new seals, some of the new tubes aren't great quality.

  3. Thats what i found just cleaned them up

  4. I,ve got 1 new tube cos 1 of my old ones was badly dented and you can see the bit where the o ring sits squashes up on 1 one side when you fit it, not the big concetina type 1 ones. I might try and push the dent out the old one if the new ones are crap, i'd be gutted if i do my rebuild and the 1 new tube ends up leaking. Cheers Zed.

Hi Chris, I reused mine with new seals. Some had dents in them, so i found a 3/8 extention bar that was the same diameter as the inside of the tube, and gently tapped it through each one. Note also, if you have to, you can change them at any time on a type 4 motor without removing the heads.

For some reason after i rebuilt my engine all 8 tubes leaked, even though i was very carefull, but all i did was twist them slightly and they've been ok.

  6. Cheers for that , i'll try the extension bar trick tomorrow.

  7. I've reused tubes lots of times, only need to replace them if they are damaged

  8. new tubes are ok... just don't get them from gsf, as they are super thin metal... the ones that heritage and coolair sell have a decent bit of weight to them

Heritage now sell stainless ones too... not tried them yet tho!!

  9. The replacement came from Heritage luckly
