Problems with our TV, anyone have any ideas?

  1. Was wondering if the splitter you have is actually a signal booster as well and maybe it's Knackered ?

  2. I remember when the aerial was installed the signal we were getting was too strong and was causing similar issues with the tv, so the guys had to go and get a gizmo to fit in the box at the base of the aerial itself to lower the signal making it all good! Hope that's not fubarred! The box on the base of the aerial has 4 connections and all three of our tv's are cabled back to that point so would have thought if that box of trick was up the spout it would effect all the tv's or is that me just being hopefull

  3. Just I remember at my Fathers maybe 20 years ago we had a similar issue when we unplugged a booster box ,never got it working again ,we had the signal to 3 TV's round the house.

  4. Have you tried hammering a smaller telly over the defective one?

  5. Had the same problem recently , i fiddled with leads and the wall socket , changed them both then a arieal in the loft ( high gain ) with a new lead still the same... it turned out to be the didgi box

  6. So may be worth trying a booster on the telly we are having problems with? I suppose it is the furthest from the aerial so has the longest run of cable o_O maybe?

  7. Was also thinking it could be the internal freeview bit of the telly thats up the spout but with the same issue on another telly in place of faulty telly using same cable it is also dodgy but no where near as bad as the big telly o_O still confused.com

I have given this some thought Robbo. The Digi box I think, maybe the tv or all the tvs, could be the wire or all of the wires. Then again it could be interference from your microwave, or some other source like next doors fridge coming on and and off, You see these tvs are delicate things you can't just watch them and expect total obedience, they have to have love, care and the occasional Robbo cuddle, perhaps you should stop work( skiving off and reading tlb) go straight home give all the tvs a group hug and remind them all how much you love them. Take the bedroom one to one side and thank it quietly for being discreet and promise them all more hugs and attention.

I'm not being very helpful am I.

  9. Boosters (actually theyre call Masthead Amplifiers) should be installed at the aerial end, some tv's can supply the power needed up the aerial cable, theres a setting normally for that. using a splitter significantly degrades the signal, so if your running 3 tv's without a booster chances are that a booster at the aerial will sort it. get one with 3 outputs and get rid of any splitters.

If there is a booster in the splitter up the aerial lead, somewhere power has to go to it. In some kinds of booster one of the wires has 12 volts DC feeding up it to the booster and a splitter arrangement to separate the DC and the TV signal somewhere.
It could be switched off or you unplugged it when you plugged in the christmas lights. Something like a mains adaptor connected to a little box that plugs into the aerial socket and has a wire going to the TV that you have forgotten about. Or a mains plug coming out of a box on the wall . Or its in one of the other rooms.

Or the wind has blown the aerial around or blown bits off it or it has just rotted away .. and the signal is no longer strong enough for the TVs on the longer bits of wire.
Or the little bit of wire between the TV and the socket on the wall is rubbish. Check the sockets in the setup that the two half moon metal bits making a socket for the centre pin in the middle of the socket are not splayed apart - squeeze with pliers will fix this.

Strangely although we live only a few miles from a massive TV transmitter, we need a booster (turned down quite a bit) up by the aerial feeding four cables, and then another booster which splits between the media centre PC and the big TV in the living room.

  11. I've tried everything without climbing onto the roof which I'm not doing for no one, I used to have panic attacks climbing into my bus before we had it lowered!

Spoke to a nice aerial man & he's putting my money on it being the cable or cable connection at the aerial end & although he is very busy has managed to squeeze us in on Monday :D

Must admit I had a look up and there is a splitter on the pole that holds the aerial with three cables coming out, there's one that goes over the back & then two that seem to be clipped together but they drop out the bottom of the splitter & then come straight down the roof & are not clipped to anything until it hits the fascia board & looks as if it's been pulled / blown in an arc over my neighbours roof so I reckon it's pulled one of the connections out!

I will update you after I've had my wallet emptied on Monday ;)

  13. if you touch the co-axe metal bit and the inside bit with your tongue at the same time you can see if there is power or not coming from your box...

  17. No power, I got one of the kids to give it a lick :D

  18. Sounds to me the coax is detached from the aerial and the coax is acting as your aerial
When a vehicle goes past or the weather conditions slightly its dropping the signal strength and your experiencing stuttering

If your tvs work most of the time fine but stutter occasionaly it will be down to signal strength

If you were closer to me robo id come round and sort it for you
