Power inverters

  1. Hi all - I'm looking at getting an inverter for charging the laptop etc when on holiday - are there any recommendations for a decent one and any views on how much they affect the leisure battery? Cheers Jason

Almost any inverter will do with a laptop provided its power output is more than the rating printed on the charger e.g. 30 watts for 8 inch, 60 watts for 15 inch ,90 watts for 17 inch, 200 watts for amonster Acer 18 inch being the screen size and power needed by some of our laptops..

Connection to battery - over about 60 watts a cigar lighter plug can start to melt . Over 100 watts or so the fuse blows. So connect it more directly to the battery.

The battery can be about half discharged before you begin damaging it. Say 75AH battery gives 40AH . Thats 60 watts for 8 hours....

I have a 600 watt inverter. To keep going for any time I would have to wedge the the throttle for a fast tickover... Normal tickover the battery would go flat...

  3. Ive a 1000 watt one for sale in the classifieds

  4. look for a 12v to what ever voltage you lap top needs converter

it will use a lot lest power than a inverter

if you go the inverter route get a pure sign wave inverter the cheap square wave ones wont charge a laptop

  5. Thanks all - that's some very useful replies....off shopping tomorrow!
