  2. It's a beautiful place, but you need take your own facilities, there's only water and waste on-site, no toilets.

Being a bit landlocked in Derbyshire, not that it hasn't got it's own beautiful places of course, there's something magical for us about a wild, deserted bit of coast, whether it's Northumbria, west Wales, the west of Ireland, or even Lincolnshire in the winter with the seal pups.

I agree entirely we do have some truly superb places around us!

Those spots you mentioned are just the tip of the iceberg. We love Yorkshire whether its inland or on the coast and we are looking at the NC500 around Scotland, thats appealing to us. The list goes on!!

That said, Notts isnt that bad, we have some really nice walks around us :D

Yes, you're absolutely right we've got a lot of great places right on our doorstep.
The NC500 really appealed to me as it's, er, 40 years since I was up there camping and touring and did a bit of what has become the NC500. That was until I heard from a mate that he and some others had gone up there in Astons and Porsches and used it as a track day. Philistines; *******ed me off no end

Thats the downside to the NC500, its been a victim of its own success but then there is the central Scotland' Heart 200, which is not quite as popular.

I think, when foreign travel comes back mainstream, the UK will get less busy again as families will want the package holiday.

Then again, us seasoned lot on here know where to go, whereas those who have just kitted themselves out will want the all bells and whistles experience with creature comforts!

  11. They are! There are facilities to empty your waste, a couple of days there and move onto something more luxurious.

I hadn't come across the Heart 200 before; it looks like a super route and brings back some fond memories from that area. My grandparents took me on holiday to Lochearnhead 50 something years ago; where does the time go? I used to be madly in love with a girl from Blairgowrie in the '80s and got to know that part of the world quite well too. Time to go back:)

Scotland is a place Ive not visited much, Edinburgh briefly, same with Inverness etc. As you say, time to go back!!

  20. @MorkC68, to paraphrase someone on here, a bucket with a lid is required ;) I got a Thetford 345, it was a revelation, not like the ones I recall from my childhood, there's no smell from it at all and the possibilities it opens up, in terms of wilder camping, are endless.
