Porsche Engine 73 Bay Microbus

Discussion in 'Show Us Your Ride' started by PorkerBus, Dec 28, 2014.

  1. Hi everyone, I have owned my bay now for a year and it’s been an amazing time. One thing that has bugged me is I don’t have any history and because it’s quite unique I thought someone out there might have come in to contact or know someone that has.

She was manufactured 17/12/73 as a 221 841 Microbus in Kasan Red and Pastel white and shipped straight to LA, I believe that’s where she stayed until 2007.

At some point she was sprayed matt black but more interestingly had a 1965 Porsche 911 2.0 engine fitted (this was definitely carried out in the US), I believe this is the more powerful S version as I have had it rolling road tested at 185 bhp, a 2.0 VW gearbox was used. Around this time steering column was also reclined a few inches.

I know the car was imported into Europe by Kieft & Klok in 2007 and then by a English buyer in 2011 who owned it before me.

Between 2007 and now it has been sprayed Audi Ibis white, has 17 Fuchs wheels, has been lowered and narrowed and had a Porsche disc brake conversion.

I’d love to know more about her history so any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Welcome to the forum - that's one superb spec' bus there fella!

As Zed & Dicky have said, any more pics :D

  5. I'll take some pictures tomorrow! Air con all in tact, blows air but sadly not ice cold, I believe the rads are missing. I've spoken to 2 different camper specialists who told me 2 different things so I'm still looking for that special person that can help me!

  6. Id try an air con specialist who knows their classics and potentially avoid the scene tax. Well specced but all in all eh!

  7. Thanks, it would be great to get it working.

Just had a trawl thru the phone and found some more pictures for now...

  8. She doesn't have any heat although the heat exchangers are in tact, unfortunately they are not connected to the original ducting so any advice from anyone about how I might go about rectifying this (or even better a someone that can) would be much appreciated. Thermals when driving aren't ideal and she gets regular use, it would be rude not too.

  9. Wow - bet it goes like the proverbial off a shovel!

  12. Very nice bus you have there:thumbsup: I don't normally like bright white paint on a Bay but I could make an exception for this one, it looks fantastic.

  13. Supernice !! you gonne be our 42 end. usb member ?

  14. Thanks for all the great comments, I haven't properly immersed myself in the scene in the 12 months I've owned her but it sounds like I should and get the bus out there for people to see in the flesh.

As for an ultimate street bay, why the hell not!!

  18. I'd speak with Paul at T2D as he was the first in the UK with it, he may have some info for you.
