Hi advise please i have just rebuilt the top end of my 76 2.0 due to a loose valve seat,
the engine is all back in but i am getting a popping/back fire though the carbs, any help will be great

  2. you'll need to check for air leaks on all the rubber joints on the balance pipes to start off with...

but spitting back up the carbs is a sign of running lean...

have you double checked the valve tappet gaps?

My mates did it once and we found the pushrod had come out of the seat on the rocker on an exhaust valve causing a MASSSIVE carb backfire, that would only be through one carb though.

thanks for you help yes it was air leaks i had to replace all vacuum pipes, servo pipes, inlet manifold gaskets i.e everything that could let air in. It seems that any air leak plays havoc with these engines.
