  1. After weeks of playing around trying to get my new carb set up properly (opening fully/closing/removing slack from cables) Im almost ready to pull my hair out!!
Im after some pics of where your throttle cable comes into the engine bay and how it comes in
id also like to know about the cable/cables and how these work?
On mine i have a throttle cable going from pedal to the arm on transmission, then another cable from the arm on the transmission to the carb, but have a strange thing which i have no idea what it does inbetween

does anyone have something similar on theirs?
or does your cable just go straight to carb?
could it be anything to do with the kick down?
I sorted the problem of the carb fully opening but now have another problem!
when you press the throttle pedal it dosnt start to move the throttle arm on carb till half way down?
all cables have no slack and as soon as you press the throttle pedal the arm on the transmission where both cables join starts to move straight away yet the throttle arm on the carb dosnt :thinking:
im convinced it has something to do with the thing in the pic as the problem seems to be from the cable from the transmission to the carb!
Hope this is understandable as im completly lost and losing the plot:)
if not just a pic will do
    cheers

Mine had a bar running from auto box to carb linkage, but that was a late auto box. When I had a progressive single carb fitted the mechanic fabricated a bracket and changed over to a cable. Never seen anything like that in the picture......is it an early auto box where the kickdown is controlled by wires connected to the throttle pedal ?

  3. I have a fabricated bracket which holds the cable just before the carb (which does have some adjustment in if you turn it)

its a late box im sure as it has a 2.0l cu t25 engine in
the only wires to the pedal is the throttle cable
im thinking of whipping this mysterious thing out having a look and seeing if i can just run the cable straight to carb but keeping the fabricated bracket
i cant seem to find any info on this subject

  4. looks homebrew to me...

not only that, type 4s came as twin carb, or FI only.... the progressive weber is an aftermarket installation!!

    What year is your van?

  5. yea a single carb was fitted when i bought it but replaced with this one a couple of weeks ago
    its a 76

  6. Do you know how to set it up so the kick down works properly?

  7. nope not really!!!
this is whats getting me all confused!!
espeacially with these unknown bits which i have no idea if they do anything important

  8. I know how to set up for FI, but not too sure it's the same for a carb'd engine!!

  9. The kick down and gear changes have been working fine
I'm guessing all this is done in the box and nothing to do with any parts added on the cable side of things?
Which makes me think I can take that silver tube out and have a look at what it is then reroute the cable without it?
But am interested in what other autos are set up like as have none to compare to

  10. thanks for that , thats some good info
