Have you ever claimed back any money for Payment protection insurance (PPI), I didn't realise until today that I had it on an old mortgage that ended in 2008, I really had no idea that we had it because I was self employed and knew it didn't work for the self employed but today I realised that I got the Mortgage offer whilst still in a proper job then left soon after. I rang the bank and they said I was sold it, So after all these years of not claiming I might be able too, Did you ever claim and get money back and how longs it normally take

Cool, was that a big loan over many years, mine was a mortgage that we paid for about five years before we changed it

  4. Do it!
The companies on TV will take a %age (probably 30) but they will get you a whole lot more than you think!
I got £3k from a loan I knew about, but I got £5k from something I didn't even know I'd had! Ok, less their cut I'm only getting £5,500 but I thought I'd only get £3k anyway.

I'm not using one of those companies I'm doing it myself, will that make a difference

  6. Yes and no, you'll get to keep all that you claim for but, if you're like me, I'd forgotten about loads of other stuff so I did better in the end.

  7. I'd say if you can do it yourself then go for it, we were plagued by companies until one day we said ok to one, filled out countless forms & said I don't have any PPI because when I was ever asked if I wanted I always said no!

It was 6 months & Lena got a few quid, it was nearly 12 months before I got anything which surprised me & then in November 3k appeared in my bank & a letter from Barclays!

Deffo worth doing but try do it for yourself because these companies base their fee on your offer pre tax which they now take off at source & they badger you to death until you pay up!

    Good luck with it!

  10. Deffo this, those companies have a way of finding all those forgotten loans, cards & even retail credit agreements but if you use one of these companies be sure to google them & make sure your clear on what there percentage payment is!

If you do get a payment say on an active credit card that you have a balance on then be aware they credit your account & you will then be left with a bill you still need to pay!

I know Capital One put aside a fair old chunk in 2007 in lieu of people claiming, same for the other banks I would imagine - that's not the same as saying people would claim unfairly, more recognition that the *****ers had been chancing their arms for ages.

I notice that they all went very quiet on extortionate bank charges......wonder if there will ever be a day when someone asks Lawyers to justify £65 to draft a letter, then a further £65 to send it.

Never had a loan, credit card or store card, only the mortgage that they confirmed I was sold PPI on, so I reckon i'm better going it alone

  13. To be honest I only did it because I got fed up with the badgering phone calls, once one of them had got "my trade" the rest buggered off. The money paid for this.....

I think it was only 1k or so most of the payment was their calculated lost interest

  15. Same here, I thought ha I'll waste your time as I've never had PPI, guess they proved me wrong! Helped as the big one came just after I got made redundant last year!

  16. I claimed mine back on my own, used the templates letters through the financial ombudsman they then dealt with its free of charge, took 18 months but in the end got every penny I had paid in plus 8% interest on top, bonus

I just rang the banks own PPI hotline, told them my name and details, waited about a minute and the bloke told me about my payments, they are now sending me a form to sign and that's about it he said

  19. I signed up to Experia's free trial. It has all your credit history. Got the PPI forms to relevant banks and got £600 back. Well pleased and easy to do.

  20. Seems like I'm the only person in the country to have never taken out PPI.
