Panic on the streets of Bridgend!

  1. I've got a type 4 2.0l and its a bit lumpy at the mo so I've cleaned up the spark plugs and cleaned the dizzy cap and rotor and put the leads back. I think their in the wrong order cos I blew a short rubber pipe going into the side of the Carb and she won't start. I'd like to get the leads in the right place first if someone can help please?

  2. firing order is 1-4-3-2.... (clockwise on the dizzy cap)

if you pop the cap off the dizzy, there is a mark in the rim of the dizzy that indicates where cylinder 1 should be...

  3. you can see the mark in this pic... the rotor arm is pointing at it

  4. Thanks Paul, I have it in the right order its still not starting so I guess cleaning the contacts and the rotor arm with some 500 wet and dry doesn't work!

  5. not if they're worn out ;)

have you set the points gap ok?

  6. I've got electronic points Paul, it was running but not well until I did the dizzy cap. It wasn't corroded but I cleaned it anyway but like I said I must have put it back wrong and blew that small breather pipe. I've repaired that and can smell the petrol so I suppose I have to check for a spark now! I'll have to look that part up, its probably on here somewhere.

  7. Is the breather pipe for the servo?

Do you have an electric fuel pump? Check you haven't dislodged a wire from that...

I had a similar issue a while back, fuel pump was earthed under a relay that had shook lose from the firewall, hadn;t noticed the fork connector hangin loose

  8. I don't know scoob it goes straight into the side of the right hand carb manifold.
