Outwell country road puzzle

  1. So I've watched the jk video and I like the awning.
My only concern is on option 3 the awning is attached to the roof rail, which is what I have on my Devon. They attach it by taking the tent to the rear of the van, then sliding the tent along the van while also sliding the connector into the Chanel if you see what I mean. Then the tent is erected. So how do you detach the awning to drive away without taking the it down?

i've got the same awning, if you drive away there is a single guide rope on the top of the joining end you peg in when you drive off, i've used the pole and clamp or the figure of 8 and it works both ways, i've even had it up in the garden as a tent.

Get someone to keep the tension on the tent and pull away slowly. Not sure how to attach yourself the next time. :)
Unusual to have the proper gutter on an old bus.

  4. I put mine up a couple of weeks ago and, as far as I can tell, the only way I could connect mine was with the pole and clamp. Not really sure how that works though. And I'm not really sure what a clamp is. I just slid the pole through the canvas then put it in the guttering, tightening it with the guy ropes. It even stayed put for a while and then it fell off and I couldn't fix it again so I tied some straps on the tent to the pop top roof and held it in place that way. A bit of a bodge. I'd really love to watch Rickyrooo put his up sometime so I can learn how to do it right. Don't let this put you off though, busby. I'm just rubbish at putting up tents and stuff. I did a lot of research on awnings and after a couple of months decided that Outwell was the best. Just top quality. And I love that zip in floor and optional carpet too.

  5. I'd really love to buy it cost it looks perfect but it doesn't look like I'll be able to drive away! Anyone else have a channel fixed to the roof? What do you do?

figure of 8 are fine if the awning is pegged correctly, people fasten guy ropes at wrong angles.

yes i have 4 lengths, i then tie the end 2 guys down at an angle pulling the join down onto the van (usually rhrough a vent at rear and to the bumper at front, to drive off i undo them 2 and slide the 8 off then peg the centre guy down that usually sits on the roof

  17. here we go, i just took some pics

Just realised my tent is the Coastal road, I think the connection end is the same and the tent is just a bit longer. The end that connects to the van has quite a lot of slack but is definitely not removeable from the main body of the tent. I can see that if I had your special gutter piece it would be very difficult to come and go (drive away) whilst camping. My first post was probably correct in this case, you could drive off carefully, but I doubt you would find it easy to reconnect. If I was staying put on a campsite I would use your special channel, if I was out every day I would use one of the other connection methods.

One tip for your drive away is once you are set-up carefully mark the position of your wheels, I use tent pegs...it's easier to connect again if your back in the exact same spot. :)

  19. Thanks for your feedback silver, I take it your awning is from the same range. Does the piece between the van and tent zip off/detach?

  20. Sorry silver just re-read
