Diff sounds like a bag of spanners. Run it with wheels off the ground and it's jumping about and clanking!
Hmm... no. I mugged myself. I've got 4 gearboxes and I know a man who can help me make a good one later in the year. For now I'll have to try a later 1600 box which uses an uprated clutch as std compared to mine and should manage the new engine. I was trying to do this and get some better gearing in one go. Never mind.
Gearboxes are funny things. They can make noises like mine, leave half a roller bearing on the drain plug (one that came in for service in November) yet still give miles of service. If these where engines they'd be kaput by now Good luck getting it sorted.
Thanks Birdy and Paul. I'm going to save it for a rainy day and make one with a good diff and good gearing in the autumn with some help from HoverJohn hopefully (he doesn't know yet!).
Out with that one and the engine, swap to a late 1600 box that will be ok for 210mm clutch and bob's your uncle. Did it this evening, all done bar the bumper and tailpipes. It wasn't fun but it's done now - back to the codiene.
Lol at least your getting the jobs done my back keeps going on me so working on the van can be a pain some times
Hmm... Anyway the late box I replaced it with is nice and quiet. Best of the 3 I've had in there so that's that for now.
...and after a good trip, I've decided the original gearbox is the best of the bunch for now. More on that another day. We have coverings. ;D I'm really pleased with the way the stainless top wraps over the cover. Yep - you spotted the gap. lol. Plans afoot. Now the dilemma. I like the colour of the leather as it turns out, but I didn't buy it primarily for this colour as this is no ordinary leather. Oh no! If I want, I can do this to it. 8) ^that was done rather crudely with paint thinners.
you can colour change it with water based car paint , scotch bright it first then spray , thats what the upholsters do owen nw
