Schadek pumps are popular and probably as good a quality as any other available today. Be aware of the consequences of using an oversize pump, especially if you use a 20w/50 oil. https://vwparts.aircooled.net/Schadek-26mm-Oil-Pump-8mm-Pump-Studs-111-115-107-p/111-115-107akhd.htm
@MR SAM HODSON - excuse - pressure related In the case of a 1600 with external filter would a 21mm be ok or a 26 be wiser - prob depends on engine state and oil thickness I guess. A 30mm fitted atm.
There is a common misconception that adding filters and external coolers requires a bigger pump, but IME that's simply not true. What is more likely to happen is the bigger pump will overcome the pressure relief valve and bypass the original cooler. Your bearings will always be the end stop that creates the pressure. Assuming you have a dual relief case (most of them are) there is even another valve to relieve too high pressure, and that is designed for a stock pump which indicates that even a stock pump is "over-specced" until your bearings are toast anyway, which should never happen. Bearings are not designed to wear, they simply hold oil for the components to float on..
A standard pump is fine for an engine in good condition. As Zed says a pump producing high volume (like a 30mm) will increase the pressure so much that the relief valve will open and bypass the cooler. What oil grade do you use?
@Zed @77 Westy Appreciate the reply. 20w50 valvoline so probably bypassing so of the time. T that's the pump that was in when I rebuilt 4 years ago. It is a 1600 twin port. I will change it out for a 21mm pump.
