Go for it. Look for anything loose, split or otherwise odd in the engine bay on that side. Take the rocker cover off and inspect. Rattle the rockers.

  2. This ^^
    Back to basics
Make sure it`s all the valve gear is secured and the tappets set correctly .
If all seems well then test the compression , seems strange that TWO cylinders have quit though ...

Big split in the manifold boot.
    Rocker shaft loose.

Single carb, both cylinders on one side not firing, I think that is the list?

When I had a valve seat go, you could feel the lose valve / spring by wiggling it. So rocker cover off and wiggle the suspect compared to the others

  7. Yep , but RAC fella said no compression on #3 so the jury is out ..

    Problems with just 3 or 3&4 ??

I know what you mean about one side down though but it could a red `errin ?

No compression could just be valves closed up.

As others said. Get rocket cover off and check

  11. Hi sorry you had to be piggy backed. I had the same problem a long time ago on first trip after I rebuilt engine and it was as Deefer said; the 2 rocker shaft retaining nuts had become loose (totally my fault) and hence valves were not opening fully. I was lucky I stopped quickly, but I can see that the problem would quickly lead to bent push rods as they slip out of the rocker cups and I guess there is a chance that before the rod is bent it might encourage a valve to be a bit closer to the piston than intended!!!
Easy to slip the rocker cover and have a look also try and turn over by hand with ign off, plugs out and see if there is a tight spot when either 3/4 pistons is TDS. However, hope it turns out to be trivial and easily fixed.

  12. Thank for the response everyone. It had the chance yet, but will be popping the rocker off tonight
