Well it came home with me yesterday, on the back of a low loader and straight in for an MOT - it failed... Headlight aim, wiper blades, number plate light out, and brakes binding / hand brake ineffective...other than that no advisories and the tester was very impressed with the condition of the rest of the van..solid as a rock so all good. I'd normally have a crack at sorting these bits out but due to workload and the fact that it was already in the garage I let them get on with it , it's had all the bits sorted along with new discs/pads and one new caliper , it's due a re-test on Monday. I'm a bit disappointed as I wanted to be in it this weekend but it's got to be right, I'm quite chuffed though as its reassurance that the rest of it is ok, especially as it's been stood for nearly three years.
Went through the MOT today with no advisories and nothing but compliments from the tester which was nice to hear. So..I went for my first ever drive in a type 2 , been a passenger but I've never driven one...very interesting I have no shame in admitting I had to google how to get into reverse... The ride itself wasn't too bad and even after 10 minutes I felt at home with the biggest smile on my mush - I must have looked like a right loon. There's a couple of knocks and rattles that will have to be sorted or fit a stereo to drown the noises out. The heaters don't work ( no surprise there though) The engine is ticking over really fast and I can't seem to slow it down, the accelerator cable has some slack in it but I assume there's something else that can reduce it somewhere..I'll have to look into that. There is a slight smell of fuel every now and again , can't see any leaks along the fuel line but I did notice a split in tone of the breather pipe joins so the first job is to go through all of them and replace them. But basically I'm on the road and I'm chuffed to bits...loads of jobs to do but hey..that's half the fun I suppose.
lovely van. i had no heating in mine initially - all the cables were there just that they'd stretched over time.. a bit of fettling was all it took to get that working. there's lots of stuff on the web to help you out on the heating system if you google.
What a nice van im a newy as well, same as you got a scooter and got a van so the whole family can enjoy the van now was supposed to sell my scooter but couldnt bring myself to do it
Welcome you've done well ,looks lovely, very straight and tidy Was the petrol smell after a corner as it quite often the filler pipes perished? Mines does that when I fill her up to the top.
I'm not too sure, I've ordered new petrol pipe , clips along with breather pipe and joints etc and will monitor it once these have been changed.
