Hi does anyone know why my indicators dont cancel please? I know from previous work on my MGB that the boss on the steering wheel had a notch which did this. Is my @73 Bay the same?
There should be a pin sticking out from the underside of the steering wheel boss that hits the indicator ring. They're quote often missing.
And lastly, if if it works but only after very sharp turns, the steering wheel is fitted 180 degs out.
Mine finally wore out recently - the sticky out plastic lever. It's a fiddly job to replace but there are "how to" threads on here.
My shroud keeps slipping, something else to investigate. I reckon Beetles are designed better than the Busses :ducks and runs for cover:
Didnt worry about mine and after 9 years of cancelling with my little finger, now cannot get out of the habit no matter what I am driving1
Mine doesnt work either, and I can't be bothered to fix it, I will eventually stop forgetting to cancel them manually after a couple miles or so...
worth checking that all four long screws holding the indicator ring and the wiper rings are installed too.... they pin wont engage if it's all a bit crooked.
A potentially useful thread here, the broken bits are available to 3D print... https://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/72-74-indicator-parts.79786/#post-1507674
‘My mate told me that’ its a good way to assess if you smoked too much puff and shouldn't be driving, when you fail to cancel the blinkers on your bay. Sends a message that transport police can see easily too, which is a back up assessment, and not to be underestimated. So self cancelling ones won’t be worth the effort, for a subset of bay owners.
