  2. Agreed the scumbags stopped the rolling 25 year rule when they realised how much money they were losing! It wont happen they wont change - recession on , although in Heathrow last week and no sogn of a recession there, lost count of the number of new plate Mercs, Ranges etc

watch out... By providing free road rent it enables the powers that be to come up with restrictions at a later date. Pre 60s cars are now MOT exempt.. Being tax exempt and mot exempt will probaly lead to restrictions in use... OK most pre 60s rent and test free cars wont get that much use but some may still be useable dailys ... If its tax and test free the next thing might be restrictions on use, viz vehicles of post 19!! that are tax / test free may only be used to attend designated organised events ... limited use could stop you taking a UK tour limited use could also mean use within a geographical location of the registered keeper address.. ???? You dont get something for nothing in this country... be afraid, be very afraid.. If you remain as is no one can stop you going where you want when you want how often you want ...

  4. Unfortunately in spite of all the people in this country and abroad that love classic cars the enviro brigade and the motor manufacturers do not like you holding onto old cars. They want you to buy a new eurobox every 3 years. It keeps the money swilling around. One day the eurocrats will have their way and no amount of celeb chefs in campervans will be able to stop it.
The only people who will afford classics in the future are the very rich! Did you go to Carfest last year? We did. There was enough money in that field to build umpteen hospitals etc. Have you kept an eye on clasic prices recently, other than non trendy makes, everything is going up in price!

That petition failed the first time. As people see it more and more times they start to ignore it. By the 250th time it becomes completely irrelevant to most people.
All tax free will disappear eventually.

  6. probably an element of truth there but its the euro nutters that are possibly the issue. There was a discusion document and there was a proposed rolling exemption but there was some reliance on this being for unmodified vehicles (with only period mods) a restriction on mileage. The requirement to attend shows (ie show your vehicle) and other crazy stuff.

If you didnt adhere to the above then you would pay road tax like everyone else. Probably mostly unenforceable, particularly if you remove the requirement for MOT but then the buggerz would have some form of registration probably requiring membership of a crusty owners club and inspections by men with beards and clipboards in slightly too small overalls!

Stan every time there is a recession classic casrs go through the roof as investors look for something to speculate on. Genuine collectors and enthusiasts loose out and are usually priced out of the market. I remember sometime in a previous decade when we were in recession that E type jags were selling for £10k as resto projects and often in excess of £100k for restored examples... things got better and classic car prices plummeted, but the guys who forced up the prices laughed all the way to the bank... I was in a fellas garage a few weeks ago looking at a job... he had to have at least 5 to 8 million plus worth of cars in his collection, there wasnt that many cars it was the value of each that forced the total up... lucky for him he started collecting over 40 years ago and bought ex lemans racing exotica from the 50s and 60s and kept it .... Your right though in the future only wealthy folk will be able to afford classics ...

  8. Agreed mate, gold , stocks etc not doing as well, invest in vintage wine and classic cars!
Just think I got a Splittie for £600 in £1991 and sold it for £650 in 1999 - crazy fool!
Maybe my Datsun 100a ( only 11 left in the country) will be worth at least £300 one day?!
