Here’s the story so far! http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=79850 I’ve got a pair of Mazda MX5 fabric seats as possibly the answer for comfort in my old van after a rather longish drive the weekend before last. Got one placed in there but not bolted down yet and Mrs Ozziedog seems to be less than enamoured with the new arrangements. I get where she’s coming from in that it does look a little like I’m trying to make my old van look like a sports car which I’m not. So any ideas on some comfy seats that are not high backed? Ozziedog,,,,,,,, I thought the only issue would be fitting them !
@Robo had a jaguar back seat, I think, that looked like a really comfy sofa. Past that, anything that doesn’t have high bolsters....though original seats are widely thought of as best.
I hear where you’re coming from, but a long day in the saddle had me so close to nodding off that I had to stop. Ozziedog,,,,,,,,maybe some more pudding in there or less pudding in me
The post-76 stock seats seem better shaped , wider and deeper provide more lateral support without lifting you higher
Very comfortable, my first car was an Austin 1800, it was like driving your living room from a comfy arm chair after the 850 mini I learned in. It was 40 years ago but IIRC the seat bases were quite thick though that's irrelavent as you have zero chance of finding any.
I had blue velour Mazda 626 seats in my old bus. They were great! Might try and get something similar for my Devon.
Get yourself over to the Maxi forum - https://austinmaxiclub.org/classifieds - and spend the princely sum of eighty quid.
I just tried to use the link, fascinated by the idea of a forum for Austin Maxis, only for my PC to block it and tell me it was a 'Dangerous Website'! I'm even more intrigued now What on earth do you all talk about? ~The suspense is killing me......
By todays standards they don't look as luxurious as my faded remembering. Everything shrinks...I followed an old Rover recently, the wedge shaped jam sandwich type from the 70's. I remember them as big cars but it was tiny!
The obligatory kibosh has been placed on the offending new seats by Mrs Ozziedog and they are now for sale . Looks like I may be after some later ones possibly with head rests. So who has got what? Ozziedog,,,,,,,,, this is turning into a proper old mission innit
The spiritual successor to many a hot hatch is not the same as the original model but the one below; the current Polo is bigger than my long gone mk2 Golf
Now we have Lottie on the road, my wife and I are relearning the shake/rattle/roll joys of 1960 designed transport, but the one thing my wife is particularly happy about is the comfortable seats which are the late bay or possibly early T25 type with headrests. I have put sliding rails on both sides and there is a good range of back angle adjustment, also the base and back side bolstering keep you secure as she rolls around the corners. I recovered mine in vinyl and added some firm foam sheet to the base of the driver side. The only negative so far is the missing covers for the reclining hinges though I believe there are some available somewhere out there.
I love the originality of mine 72 seats, but after a long drive you end up sore in places where I didn't think it was possible to be sore
