Had the day off work today to work on the bus.. Started the day off by finishing the welding on the near side wheel arch.. Some cleaning up to do here.. And a fairly nice gap between the arch and b post..
Then I moved round to repair the bottom of the offside a post Heres some bits I made up. (Not the one on the right, that's a schofield panel )
Hopefully will get the wheel arch closing panel on tomorrow, then I can start looking at the last piece of the puzzle.. The offside wheel arch
Today's update, got a fair bit done today. Front off side arch is nearly on! Got to finish off the welding next Saturday, then clean up all the welds on both front arches.
Ok not much of an update but I got my wheels back from the powder coaters. Off white, times five. Tyres waiting to be fitted. £25 per wheel, not too bad. With the added bling sat on top.. Also got more bling from C&C... Oh and also, last week got some of the pop too cleaned off back to nice aluminium, ready to be prepped for paint.
Place called colorcote in Norfolk, in bethel opposite the huge lotus plant. They do loads of the lotus stuff. Nah the wheels were already blasted. They put some powder-lacquer on free of charge though as I'm a loyal customer, that's why they're shinier than normal.
Today's update.. Started by doing some finishing welds on the chassis legs to the inner front panel, done two lines then run out of welding wire :/. So swapped over to some bodywork. Got the entire front panel sanded down and the dents etc marked, Then did some more body fillering. Swage line needed some filler.. Front wheel arch.. A post..
Been watching this for ages can't wAit to see some paint on this !! Was it beige I was having bud ? Looks awsome body work !!
You and me both bud, the bus was red when I got it, front clip was yellowy-beige. Will all be going back to the original colour of vw brilliant orange though .
Amazing work, just read your resto from start to finish. Its an inspirational read and certainly got me dreaming about one day having a go myself. Just need the workshop or garage space to do it lol. Will be watching intently from now on.
Today, Managed to finally get the steering box out! While the bus was jacked up I finished the chassis welds on the front clip..
