mot woes Engine Poorly

  1. Ive got my mot in a week, first one since ive owned it, didnt now it was visual so thats one less worry (not a smoker!), went around the bus checking lights etc, all ok, the original water bottle seems hit or miss, hits the drivers side and nothing passenger!!, would this be a fail?, tried unblocking with a pin etc and more air but nothing yet, jacked up and checked wheels for play etc all seems ok but not to sure what the tolerance is tbh, would like to get underneath when its being tested to have a good look, think the last time i sat and waited for the mot at the garage was about 20 odd years ago, would the tester allow me underneath while he carries on testing?, not to sure what they look for when testing as my daily seems to fly through with minimal work and pick it up at closing time, anything i should been looking at doing before i take the bus down?, cheers deano

Make sure you get a free re-test.
    Both washers must work.
There will be some play in the wheel bearings.
The tester may let you have a look under if you ask nicely. And point stuff out if he fails it.

  3. Yeah, I do full rebuilds on type 4s!!

Plus with my rebuilds, you get your engine back, and not one that isn't :)

But first things first, get a 2nd opinion!! :)

Amusingly put, and exactly the point I was trying to make. With an exchange engine, you're paying for everything whether it needs it or not and might end up with case and crank machined to the limit when your own just needed a bearing freshen up.

  5. And quite often you're paying top dollar for an engine that has had a couple of hundred in parts put into it

  6. I took my old bus to a garage for a couple of bits of work a look over and then an mot, it failed with a list admittedly nothing major but a list none the less, so i picked it up took it to another garage, the mot tester came into the waiting room and called me out to look under the bus and i thought oh no here we go, he walked under it pointed up and said "all looks bloody good under here, don't see many like this" what a relief, and i walked away with an mot.

Got to mot the new bus tomorrow, fairly sure it'll fail, but at least i'll have a list to work to :)
