MOT : Trailer Socket Operation

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by pHiL, Apr 7, 2013.

  1. Last year my MOT guy had to buy a new tester that checks the tow bar electrics for this reason- he let me off this time, but he is a good reasonable guy and I never mess about, if he says fix something I do it .

I never used mine until recently and found it was pants so rewired it and fitted a brand new one( all connections corroded in the old one) but I fitted JK reversing light kit in Jan which I also need to wire into the socket before next MOT - what a pain in the !!

  2. Just checked - realised mine does not seem to cover a reversing light - yay! No fog light thank goodness

  4. The NTT and WCA are the ones that are pushing this legislation. They keep changing the O and OA categories as to what is exempt and what's not. As it stands right now all new trailers must be type approved and are up for 'MOT' in three years. Currently all older trailers will gain grandfather rights, for the time being.

This is something that WILL be coming into effect, and I think it's about time too. It just a matter of when.
