More fed up than a very fed up person. :-(

  1. I've never had the privilege of having a garage (or any sort of dry outside workspace) and after last years summer stopping me from doing anything on my bug i finally bit the bullet and after saving everything i could for 3 months i managed to scrape together just enough cash to buy a gazebo to work under.
Its been great and really useful for the past 2 weeks while i sorted my camper for its MOT, but the strong winds last night have now ripped a lot of its eyelets out and its flapping around like a stranded fish and no longer watertight meaning i'm back to square one again.
More money i really couldn't spare down the drain.:(

I'm really getting fed up with life giving me a kicking.
Theres only so much i can take and i'm pretty near breaking point at the moment. I really just feel like sitting down and crying. It seems i just can't catch a break with anything i do at the moment.

  2. Sorry to hear that dude and i can completly understand how your feeling right now
It awfull when lifes constantly one step forward 3 steps back

The ripped out eyelets can be replaced with sewn in loops of webbing strap or some other repair so dont completely dispair right now

  3. :-( Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it can be fixed. Keep going and keep smiling and I'm sure you'll get some luck soon.

  4. Sewn in loops of webbing strap?

Problem is once the wind gets in it just hammers the rest of the cover from the inside out.
The side and end door thats sheltered is still mint. Once i've got the camper MOT'd on wednesday i might take it down again to repair and chop 3 or 4" off the length of the legs so theres more of a flap on the floor to put sand bags on to weigh it down. Or maybe bury the edge of the cover in the ground like you do with the cover on a polytunnel.

Weather is forcast 50-60mph gusts and rain for the next 3 or 4 days depending on which weather forcast you believe so i'm hoping it'll survive til then.
I was out at 4am this morning trying to tie it down better as the wind was just whipping it around.:(

I haven't had any since before the start of the millenium.:(

  5. :hug:have a hug and a cry if you need to, then take paradox advice get the eyelets replaced and weigh it down with sandbags - it's got to be worth a try

  7. I honestly bloody hate the wind ,sometimes in the van I lie there waiting for the roof to blow off ,especially in Whitby :(
Summers coming mate ,just look forward to seeing you out in the van

  8. Infact I know 2 of my gas struts knackered there and the roof thermal cover got ripped.

  9. Hopefully we'll get a summer this year. Don't think I could cope with another like last year. Need to get some use out of it. Atleast I've got one vw show to look forwards to this year.:)

Got MOT booked for 1pm wednesday and still need to sort a few bits out beforehand. Just a bit of rust curing and patching up of chassis black and underseal to make it look pretty underneath. Managed to get the welding finished before the rain yesterday.:)

  10. We once went camping and the wind was so gusty that when we went to bed we actually lowered the roof for fear of losing it to the elements in the middle of the night. :(

  11. The people next door at our camp site in st ives dropped their pop top after the first night and had their daughter sleep cross the two front seats.
Was so bloody windy they thought the wind was gonna take it.

  12. Sorry to hear that Zebedee. Take a breather from it, then go back to it when you're feeling a bit cheerier. No point in battling on when you're head's not in the right place for it. Hope you manage to get your gazebo sorted.

I sympathise - it has been really horrible weather - wind and rain or freezing..

Hang sandbags from the posts just off the ground rather than shorten the legs.

But in gale force winds, unless it is made of very solid and expensive fabric, it will rip and shred.

Or it will do like I saw an awning do once (before the owner had pegged it down properly ) which was flip over the top of the van and fire metal poles at the rather nice splitty parked alongside in a gust of wind.

Anything a budget dubber can afford will be made in China by people who dont care and who make things that are cost down shadows of things that are made properly.
They will look good sheltered in the DIY store but dont have the reinforcements needed and are made from the thinnest and cheapest material.

Like 99% of EMPI branded kit.

  14. Ohhhh I feel for you Zebedee I am in the same boat - week after week of problems it seems.

But my philosophy is to always find the positive so here's yours....at least it didn't blow away

I had to undertake an emergency roof evacuation last year during strong winds in Norfolk, and dash outside in the pitch black and pouring rain to unhook the awning and lash it down to the ground. Wasn't pleasant. Even less pleasant when the dogs refused to shift off the R+R and left me to sleep on the floor wedged in the walkway!

  15. I've been trying to keep positive but when its one thing after another again and again and again its really difficult to.
I've walked away from my bugs resto (which has been done outside) when i've got pee'd off with it and thats taken 12 years to do so far.
As the campers MOT is due to run out in a week or so i've had to crack on with it no matter what.

Its got loads of sandbags holding it down and ratchet straps and 12" rebar pegs so its not going anywhere in a hurry. Its just as you say, a chinese made cheap (though still 3 months of saving for me) gazebo and isn't the best quality materials.

The wind has now destroyed the zip on the door so i've had to tie it up out of the way. God knows how much will be left by tomorrow morning as its forcast strong winds (50-60 mph gusts) for the next few days.

Got a doctors appointment booked for the end of the week to see about getting another course of anti depressants as its really getting too much for me at the moment.:(

  16. keep positive mate....few years ago we had week in Dorset then onto Isle of White. Grange Farm the site. it was windy when we got there, people's tents flapping, people asking for money back cause they couldn't even pitch cause of the wind...started to put the awning up, snapped the poles in the wind, decided put up the beach tent to store our stuff so we could sleep. woke in night wind and rain so hard it was blowing it through the canvas pop top. roof down Mrs + 2 kids on 3/4 r+r bed. me on floor with legs between walk through. woke up beach tent full of water, we can do this British Spirit.... 4 hrs later, youngest starts being sick....early ferry home . just got too much..40 years old I was nearly in tears..honest...but you know we look back and laugh now...try and take it in your stride chum....you know what too....I gonna make the most of a sunny day this year..

  17. Really sorry to hear things are getting to you, I know its not much help telling you it will be ok in the end but trust me it will be and before long you will laugh about your windy tent saga!

I had similar low points a few years ago , everything seemed to go wrong. But really it was just a set of coincidences I took too personally. Do you really think God or whatever you beleive or not is so bothered to upset you and just you? Naaa please dont get me wrong I used to get depressed a lot and let things get to me still do sometimes but I have to put things into context and then its all ok.

Anti depressants might help short term but really you have to adjust the way you think when things happen. There are far worse things happening in the world that gazebos blowing away or Vw campers.

Hang on there mate. Ride the storm and you will be better for it later.
