Mechanical Fuel Pump Replacement???

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Robo, Sep 21, 2012.

  1. Before I start the job other than tools I've got a new fuel pump, rod thingy & gasket, what else do I need?

Wasnt sure if I needed to grease the rod (I'm off again but this time I'm serious) and will I need a smearing of gasket sealer as well as the gaskets?

    Thanks in advance...

    Robo...

  2. I know it's a simple job but I have little knowledge and want to do it correctly, anyone?

  3. You'll need to apply a little grease to the top of the rod where is contacts the fuel pump...

and a little sealer on the gaskets wouldn't go amiss

Crack on dude, you shouldn't need anything else :)

  4. Top man, thanks for that sometimes a little reassurance is all you need!

I've noticed your posts on other peeps mech & tech questions & you sure know your onions!

    Thanks again!

  5. I managed to get the job done earlier but had to remove the distributor to get at the rear nut, it went well as I marked the dizzy position but somehow got the pipes re fitted to the new pump the wrong way, lol...

After working out my school boy error she fired up and ran ok so don't think I screwed up the timing!

We rewarded Molly with a run out to a nice park with the family and no problems, phew!

I'm so not mechanically minded but very pleased I got it right, well in the end...

  6. we all have to start somewhere dude

  7. Well done fella, another job marked off the list for you !

  8. K + well done

Well done, but marking the dizzy isn't really quite enough. 1 deg out with the dizzy is 4 degs out on the timing. An extra 4-5 degs advanced and your engine will overheat at cruising speeds.

I did the pipes thing too once, proper Doh moment!

  10. Thanks guys I do want to get stuck in but I have zero confidence and reckon I'm gonna pre-book the next 5 yrs worth of tekenders!
