Yes, actual genuine brand-new VW heads, or they were brand new when I bought them 10 years and two engines ago. New heads can be taken out to 62cc and more, it just takes longer. Dinner and a bottle of wine down.
80mm stroke works just fine, no machining or clearancing and you can use a standard base circle cam. Rod ratio is okay and the engine width is close enough to standard for the tin and exhaust to fit without modification. What’s not to like? But fix what you’ve got.
You won’t get it to rev more with that cam; not enough lift or duration for the capacity. You spec’d the engine for torque, and torque at very low revs, it’ll probably run out of puff at less than 4k revs.
I don’t usually look at CB stuff, they seem to be biased towards the type 1 and as far as I know (but I haven’t looked) they don’t do type 4 heads. EDIT. I’ve just looked at their website and can’t see anything for the type 4.
AA performance will carve them out to 104 at no extra charge and alter the chambers to your CCs for £13 per chamber. £904+52+ import duty the pair 42x36 valves. Or 44 x 36. Difficult to beat.
That's good to know, thanks. I know my 1700 made 1800 had the heads changed to AMC ones before I bought it. I have some of the PO's docs I'll have to look it out, see if they were done by AA. I know 75 at the wheels is piddly compared to you guys but I am fortunate enough to have the Bug if I ever need to test out my undercrackers
I still have to get the deck measured accurately, 4 pages on... 60cc inc valve pockets, 3.25mm 7.9:1 3.50mm 7.7:1 3.75mm 7.5:1 I can see the burning of fuel in there has been terrible, but what can you do?
Well yes, and 15,000 miles later it's knackered. It'll do 90mph. And I should empty it out of heavy stored stuff that I drive around with day to day.
It probably won't be a work of art but I suspect it won't matter with 3.5mm deck. Hopefully they'd unshroud the inlet valves. Maybe the cnc them? Who knows.
I’d open up the combustion chambers, reduce the deck and increase the CR. 8.0:1 static CR is low, even for a standard cam.
Really then, all I need to do is get ye olde deck height accurately measured and get my order in. I'll swap out the high rev springs for my stock softies.
