  3. I think the best comments I've ever had are:

"I'll give you 600 quid for it."

and (from a random scrap pikey who pulled up outside my house in his battered transit)

"Does it need a new engine? I can build you one." (probably the same guy who stole a ruined and partially stripped AD case from down the side of my house wanting to sell it back to me......)

  8. There has been a bit of progress on this with the deadline for getting the van up and running soon approaching.

I've changed the complete wiring loom, upgraded the headlight bulbs, fitted a new stereo and have dropped the engine to investigate the fuel smell in the cabin. Found some pretty well cracked rubber behind there so just as well I checked it! New parts are on order ready for refitting!

Then proof you should check your fuel breathers and filler pipes carefully!

  10. A quick update with no photos unfortunately. Before I fitted everything back together, I checked over the engine and carbs and found a fair few issues / bodges.....all three bolts that hold the engine support bar on to the engine were loose (one was missing completely), both engine mounts were shot, the progressive carb was held on with only 3 nuts rather than 4 (=Airleak!).

After this, with the help of my dad, we managed to fit all the new fuel breathers and the main tank filler hose, refit the engine, fit new engine mounts and install a new foam tinware seal. The van started straight away and idles much better than before. shows what a difference a small air leak can make!

We then fixed the headlight main beam which wasn't working, fixed the drivers side break light, wired up the stereo, fitted new speakers in the kick panels and put most of the dash back together.

Looks like we are nearly there for my sisters wedding in 2 weeks! I'll get some new photos shortly.
