It was the grease used at the end of gunpowder cartridges which the soldiers would bite off to get to the gunpowder - the rumour spread amongst muslims they were using pork fat and amongst hindus they were using beef fat. I think they did actually contain beef fat but that was quickly removed.
And so the circle of "life" continues. I worked for M&S as a schoolboy & they were considered the tops. The culture was certainly Yorkshire market trader and Polish Jew, but none the worse for it. Their attitude was that the customer was always right but they failed to move with the times. Sadly it's situations like this that fan the flames of the extremist manifestos on BOTH sides of the religious fence. To some it won't matter whether it's a case of equality or discrimination, it will be twisted to suit their end. I'm usually a quiet sort of bloke, happy to be on the edge & enjoying my life. This sort of thing, where the mob turns on "good intentions" and uses the devil of social media to attack makes me sick. The only real victims are people such as the Rigby family and in reality we should be very wary of anyone who takes their religion "seriously".
Tolerant of what? Being told after queuing that you have to join another queue because the person at the till has declared themselves unfit for purpose? I would be very intolerant of that situation.
Absolutely! It seems my sarcasm was wasted! Im afraid I dont have alot of time for this sort of silliness!
The problem is it is probably a tiny minority of muslims who want this yet now people will be looking at the queues and avoiding those with obviously muslim staff - secondly there is a deal of community pressure and those of the more pious ilk might start to persuade their less pious co-religionists into their way of thinking (the more muslim than you syndrome which has been observed in the niqab debate) - and thirdly this does absolutely nothing for muslims, it totally works against them. Whoever thought this is a good idea hasn't got a clue - to appease a minority of muslims they are demonising the majority of them. Not good
Erm.....I thought food and alcohol was wrapped, so unsure where the handling part comes in. I wonder how many muslims sell lottery tickets quite happily. Can I refuse to buy knifes in homewares if the salesman is Muslim*? I'd want all religions to be clearly shown so that I can be dealt with by an aethiest in case I offend anyone. Agree with poster above - as an aethiest - this is pathetic. *this is tongue in cheek.
