As you all know i'm a truck driver - and there for the grace of god go i .

i can't bgin to tell you how upsetting i find he pictures of last nights m5 tragedy , whatever the cause my heart goes out to the victims and their relatives -- tragic

  2. When I was younger I would always pester my grandad to take me out in his truck. He worked for Tolemans delivering Volvos. I was due to go with him, but at the last minute I was told no. I screamed and pleaded ( I was 6! ) but still told no. Next day he jackknifed and wrecked the side of the cab I would have been sitting in!
Hope those taken to hospital are ok.

  4. i literally only just heard about this.

one of my friends was heading down there for the weekend and his parents cant get hold of him. so they called me to see if i had heard from him - which i haven't.

his dad has called the police and so far he's not been involved so keeping my fingers crossed.

    its a horrible disaster ...

  7. I used to drive a small White van for a living doing some 70,000 miles a year seeing some of the driving out used to scare the he'll out of me, don't enjoy driving much now and peoples driving has got worse.

Thoughts go out to the families and emergency services.

They were stretched to the limit here with the big Bridgwater carnival, the heavy down pour of rain which caused a 50m+ stretch of the retaining wall and road collapsed the river into the river hours before the carnival then the tragic events that unfolded on the M5.

  10. Awful, awful, awful

I'm sure your friend will just be enjoying his weekend away and probably hasn't seen the news and thought to call his parents. Everything crossed here that that's the case mate.

  11. If it's any help we have had problems with our mobile phones down here since the rain yesterday.
Not able to make calls having to send texts 3 times before it went and no 3G access.

    Let's hope you hear soon.
I've just heard from a friend which went away last night that way, sent her a few texts last night no reply she's just surfaced so must have been a good night.

  12. that stretch of the M5 is so worn out that even the lightest rain makes it almost impossible to see - if there is any cross wind its exacerbated due to it being pretty flat too. I travel up and down there every few days and there's often 'pea soupers', ground fog and mist is always an issue - and you still see people tooling along, inches from the car in front at 80 - 100mph.

Whilst its not right to point the finger the highways agency has a duty of care to ensure that our roads are maintained - this stretch is by far one of the worst on the motorway network
    :)

  13. Have to agree with you there Mr Joker is a crap stretch of mway there are streched which are still red concreate and hellish noisey to travel on.
Came back from Plymouth last Fri quite late 10.30 pm ish and cars were flying past me like I was stood still. Out of all the motorways I've driven on the stretch from Weston down to Exeter is the worst I've been on and hate driving on, it's just unfortunate that I live smak bang between the two

  14. This sort of event really scares me, i feel terrible for all those involved. Im a trucker too and when you think about it, the law of averages says if you spend your time on the road eventually your going to be involved in something like this. Luckily so far i havent. It never used to bother me but now im a dad it scares me sh*tless.
Who do you drive for poptop?

  19. I've just heard that the police are looking into the local Rugby club, they suspect that smoke from their firework display may have distracted the drivers on the M5...

The police are also checking to see if the rugby club had proper permission to host the display so close to the motorway..!!
