    hi guys,

had my bus lowered 1 spline earlier in the year but kept the standard wheel an tyres. Having just bought a house with a garage to home my pride and joy...it still sits about an inch too tall to fit in  gutted!! i would get it lowered another spline but practically and financially trying to avoid it. if i had a lower profile tyre on the standard steel wheels, would i need to change shocks etc or antyhing else or would it be a thumbs up just with new tyres.

    Cheers in advance :)

  2. you might want to think about doing something to regain the gearing on the back

that's unless you like driving everywhere at 4000 revs with a top speed of 50 mph

  3. probably about 3hrs work to dial in the back end a bit more...

what lowering system did you opt for on the front?

  4. Ive got the same sort of problem I've sold my house and buying one with a garage and I need to work out if it will fit as I have a pop top too ,the van is lowered 1 spline at the back .
I think I'll have to take the garage door and frame off to get it in .

Is your van hitting the up and over door ?

  5. I know this sounds bonkers but I once had a lock up that my van woudl only fit in if I reversed it in - it was to do with the angle of the driveway so you might want to check this.
I bought a house a couple of years ago and ended up doing away with the up and over door and got someone to make a pair of wooden doors - cost about 500 though and before I had the money it fitted in if someone stood on the rear bumper!

  6. Have you thought about lifting the roof on your garage, mine just fits in now I've lifted my roof by about 2" and adjusted the door so that it sits high once open, my vans not lowered (yet), but I will have to rethink the situation when the poptop goes on. ;)

  7. Have a good look at your garage door. If it's just an inch or two it could be a very simple job of just pulling off the trim, cutting the opening an inch higher, put the trim back on and adjust your door.
Doesn't Chrisradioman sell garage doors? Ask him about it.
Of course if you insist on modifying your bus further instead, that works too. It's just time and money. And who cares if you chip a tooth every time you hit a little bump in the road? It adds character.

  8. To get back to answer the question about tires. You can lower the van by lowering the tire profile but you give up forward "speed" as a result. Simplest way to find out the difference is to measure up and down on your current tire and go to the tire shop and measure up and down on a couple of their tires.

  9. You'll find your van will fit in the garage if you take a good run at it ;)

rickyrooo1 Hanging round like a bad smell

let my mrs pack your bus for a camping weekend, the stuff she takes can make a standard height westy sit on the bumpstops!

  11. Mine will fit in a garage hopefully but still thinking about a roller shutter door to gain more room

  12. let the tyres down, not fully...

    get it in

    pump em back up

you wouldnt want to do it every time but to get it in for the winter its a quick free fix!

it is an up and over door...thought about taking it off completely but could do with storage for all the random parts & trinkets i have collected over the years..why do we never use them but keep buying??
will need to sacrifice the roof rack sadly unless i find oine that sits closer to the roof.
i tried the reversing in but the driveway is straight and not a slight hill to work with.
spoke to a friend at the weekend and he thinks taking it down in tyre size should be ok if its only a few sizes smaller. basically trying to avoid a hefty bill at the end i might try some part worn tyres. its not like have been able to do thousands of miles this year with the shocking weather!!
any recommendation on tyre sizes? few people think slightly larger at the back?! clearly im not that clued up on motors but always learning!

another thing off the subject...i very rarely use my pop top cos its a ball ache to pull it back down.anyone seen these rag tops an if there any good?im in 2 minds about it (again the cost)
