Took a trip to Volkswares the other weekend to collect the front seats in their new trim, very impressed with the quality.
The spare room is now full of parts ready for when the bus comes home from paint.

Still really need some aluminium strip for attaching the poptop canvas to the bus roof so I can get the holes drilled before paint goes on. Anybody got any or got any ideas on what to use?

  5. go see davo, they use a nice ally strip down there thats approx 20mm wide, no holes so you can drill emw here ya want, and its about 4mm thick, with pencil round edges :)

You need to find an original set of strips or the canvas won't fit correctly. They have rounded corners. There is a plastic bead on the bottom of the canvas that tucks neatly under the strips. Early bays used the same roofs so worth nipping over to Earlybay.com and put up a wanted add.

  7. Sorry for the lack of updates over the months, progress has been a bit slow for a number of reasons:

    1 I am going to be a dad.....Yippee were having a baby.
    2 Redecorating the house(for reason see 1)
3 Had a brief moment where I didnt really know if I could be bothered to finish Lola.
4 Buying a new daily reduced the budget for a bit.
5 Jim at Hangar Autos is chocka with work since making the decision to leave the safety of employment and go it alone.

You will be glad to hear that I am going to be bothered to finish Lola and she has progressed a bit more recently.

Still searching for the poptop canvas aluminium strips? Also found that one of the poptop hinges is buckled stopping if from fully extending, anybody got some spare?

  8. Well it's just about ready for the paint shop, all the doors have been repaired and primed, gaps all checked, engine bay primed, body reprimed. Haven't been able to spend much time on it due to a our son Jude being born on the 12th of January. Now just gotta hope once I have settled up with Jim that we have enough in the camper account to get her sprayed!!!!! If not she will be coming home in primer and being stored until we do have enough.

Got some aluminum pop top canvas strips from volksheaven in the end for a very reasonable price.

  11. Update..........
My mate Dave collected Lola this morning from Jims (jim has done a great job, every panel and gap is just as it should be)

And took her to...........the paint shop! Woo hoo!
    Here is today's progress,
    image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Tomorrow it's prep, mask and paint the outside of the shell as well as all the bolt on bits that need to be body colour. More pictures to follow......

Thanks to Ryan "Rixy" for doing the paint for me, there was no way we could afford to just drop it off and collect it when it's finished. We supplied all of the materials and Ryan organised the hire of the booth for the weekend with Steve Cato (Cato Restorations) if they hadn't the camper would now be sat in primer in my workshop waiting. Have a feeling the beers are going to be on me for a while!
