Lockdown and travel restrictions

  1. I reckon there is going to be another lockdown soon and maybe travel restrictions listening to the radio today people in wales saying that it’s not fair people from Liverpool traveling there and to be honest I sort of agree if you are in a medium risk area people traveling are just a risk.

  3. It's ridiculous. What's wrong with enforcement of a travel ban, say 20 miles of your home address ??
I'll tell you what's wrong, the idiots would cry about their rights being violated because they can't visit aunty Doris and she misses the kids . Yadda yadda yadda...
Our kid lives in Brisbane , they were in an enforced lockdown for 6 weeks which actually worked and one rule was no travelling more than 20k from your home address. Australia fared better than most countries, doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise why ...

I think lockdown is a good idea.

  5. What if you just want to go for a drive? Not hurting anyone is it? Everyone screaming about wanting to be locked up may have to be careful what they wish for especially if the Army get involved (which has been mentioned) George Orwell's 1984 is at present not far off the mark. As I said, be careful what you wish for.

Apart from living in London, 20km could get you a good distance from home(and back).

I think we need the lockdown. So many people off at work and a lot of students too. Something needs done and those in charge are screwing it up big time.

  7. That's exactly the attitude I'm talking about . You may well just hop into the van and drive on your own to somewhere nice , have a cuppa and head home . Most of the idiots will see it as an opportunity for a day out as we all saw earlier in the year but nothing was done about this due to the Government being unable to police their own rules . Draconian steps were taken in Oz and they worked because the populace wanted them to work , shame it'll never happen here , especially with a bumbling clown in charge .

As for being careful what you wish for, time to get real - 1984 has been with us for decades, probably since about 1984 ....

I will put my hands up to being lockdown travel ban breaker as I drove on a few occasions 100 miles to look after my dad on the weekends when no carers were available.

If he ever gets out of hospital and back home I will be doing it again.

I won’t be travelling for leisure purposes unless it’s the drive up the road and have a read in my van.

You are in a bubble with you dad then. I see absolutely no problem with that. You are not a government “advisor” taking the p***, you are a carer

FTFY .... seriously though, is there not talk of bringing "designated family carers" in under the testing umbrella so they can visit elderly relatives? If so you're covered.
Our current garage/annexe Airbnb guest came direct from Canada to isolate for two weeks before doing a PhD this year .... Hasn't even set foot out of the door for a week. (We WhatsApp through the wall o_O )
SOME people take their responsibilities seriously!

  11. Sadly a lot of folks don't stick to the advice and put others at risk.

An example is a mate of a neighbour who came over from his home in Spain a few weeks back to catch up with the neighbour and their drinking mates. Chap from Spain gets off the flight and doesn't isolate, comes over to see his mates and they go down the pub and share cars and mix with strangers at the pub and Spain chap does building/repair jobs for old folks while he's here with no mask or distancing, more trips to the pub and then goes back to Spain after 4 weeks to stay with his girl friend. And that's just one person's poor attitude.

Re going out in the van for a little trip, I don't see any issue with that.

Oz closed their borders and still have until at least 2022. They have strict guidelines on socialising etc, if you travel from 1 state to another you have to isolate.

They are strict and it works.

I don’t blame the gov’t for our failure, I blame the numpties that can’t adhere to common sense, self discipline etc etc.

  15. It might work for them on health grounds but they are going to be royally screwed without the tourism dollars.

Your kidding right. Like most countries, of course they will lose $$ on tourism, but it’s not what they rely on. They have massive exports of minerals mostly to China but elsewhere too.

Did they have a recession in 2008.... no. They have now like us entered into recession, however it’s there 1st for 30 odd years.

  20. I am fortunate to be in La Palma in the Canary Islands. We have 4 active cases out of 80,000 people here which is incredibly low. And a total of 180 altogether since it started . Most of those are from health workers that were treating people in the beginning..If anyone wants a good safe vacation. Come here. I’m also renting apartments. Super cheap There’s no real restrictions here. Although you need to wear the mask thing. But the police aren’t bothering anybody. Must be the fresh air and the isolation of an island.
