Keeping a record of how much you spend

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by dookie, Aug 25, 2020.

  1. Is it a good idea to keep a record of everything you spend on a restoration? If the money has to be spent anyway on parts and I'm not selling her at the end anyway. Or do I stop when I run out of cash?

Or she might just ask what the total of the invoices in the drawer all add up to

  8. No access to my email no invoice but how am i going to smuggle in the gene berg shifter!!! Bugger!

  9. NO NEVER ADD IT UP!
Especially when you’ve done more than one resto, recon I’d be a millionaire if I didnt have old vw’s !
I do try to keep all receipts tho as I once heard if anyone (tax or import man etc comes knocking) or it’s found to be stolen 40yrs ago etc, you can prove What u spent on it etc and uk tax paid on all parts!
Just make sure the wife never finds them;)

If I remember they are about £300
    Nice thing though
If my mrs ever found out how much I’ve spent
I would surely get my balls felt.. but not in the nice way :D

  11. Or you will be in the divorce courts .

  12. Exactly as others have said - don't add it all up - But I would keep all the receipts and photographs anyway as proof of what has been done - file them in a box that only you can find.

  13. As above. You will never recoup what you spend restoring these old buses properly, so its irrelevant how much it cost anyway!

  17. Yeah Sticks out like a sore thumb doesn’t it, thought the same by she never even commented on mine Recon it’s the single best item I’ve ever bought for my bus and caress it daily!

So I keep every receipt in a folder in date order.

    but

I never add it up

It’s just useful if something goes wrong - for instance I had a washer motor stop working I bought from JK.

They just changed it - no quibble.

I never thought about hiding it all from Mrs S. She’s pretty tolerant fortunately. I’ve had this addiction for many years certainly before we got together.

Other way round works too, I appear to still have a bus post divorce, there's a lot more room and the passenger side noise has stopped.
