    Hi All,

Only just spotted this thread - must be getting sloppy ::)

I just had a word with Mark about these headlamps, and we just grabbed one out of stock to check it over and it doesn't appear to be 'E Marked', so it looks like they're not strictly road legal here in the UK.

We're really sorry for any confusion that has been caused by this, but we weren't aware that they didn't have an E Mark before we advertised them.
I'll try and sort out what's going on with them at this end, but if anyone has any comments or concerns about these products then please do contact us about it and we'll do our best to resolve any issues you may have.

    Thanks
    Josh

I thought you were going to stop selling crap Josh?
Was looking forward to putting these on the bus but they're no use whatsoever if you can't use them on the road.

like a lot of stuff it depends on the mot tester as to the "legality" i agree that if it doesn't say for off road use only it's a bit naughty, but how many people run black and silver plates illegally? same thing in the eyes of the law.

    It's not though is it?
A number plate doesn't need testing to make sure it's fit for purpose. A light does. (And these haven't been)

Perhaps you need to get everyone else in JK Towers to join your crusade!

You need to at least change the wording on the ad.

    Hi again all,

I've just spoken to the relevant people about this, and I've been told that the products have now actually all been bought by a trader who specialises on golf parts (didn't catch the name) who has some plan for them.

I'm going to try and work out how we can ensure that this sort of thing doesn't happen again.
An E Mark is a small detail that's easily overlooked, but obviously has a huge impact further down the line!

I'd like to personally apologise for the inconvenience and any bad feeling brought about by the issue with these products.

This sort of issue is extremely rare here at Just Kampers - especially when you look at the size of our range and the number of products we're always adding to it - but I obviously understand that it can have a negative impact on how we're perceived as a company, and I will do my utmost to ensure that these sorts of issues, if they do crop up, aren't repeated in future.

    Best Regards
    Josh

  12. Thanks for clearing that up Josh. Would only take
one snotty inspector to ruin your day! As I mentioned,we sold stuff like this in my old job and we left it to the customer to make up their mind if they used them or not. Can you try and find some approved ones? Really would like a set for the van.

I removed the HID headlights from my MGB to comply with DfT guidelines. http://assets.dft.gov.uk/publications/dft-information-sheets/aftermarket-hid-headlamps.pdf

Just found this on a Golf forum from March last year.

    e-mail to VOSA.
I have an aftermarket HID kit fitted to the dipped beam headlights of my 2001 VW Golf into aftermarket projector lens headlights. I believe my beam has the correct pattern but I do not have headlight washers or a self-levelling system in the headlights. Question being once the new rules are fully enforced will my car fail it's MOT with HIDS fitted but no washers or levelling system? Or will it pass providing the beam pattern is correct?
    Many thanks for your help

    VOSA reply -
Thank you for your email enquiry dated 16th March 2012, concerning the
    above.

HID lamps that have an output of less than 2000 Lumens do not need headlamp
levelling or washing. LED lamps under 2000 Lumens must have self-levelling, but do not need washing.

It is not possible for an MOT tester to determine whether or not a
particular lamp is more than 2000 Lumens or not. The MOT test therefore
uses the lowest criteria that can realistically be applied; so if a
particular vehicle is fitted with a headlamp levelling or washing system,
then we consider it logical to assume that it requires it by law and
therefore it must work; conversely, if a vehicle is not fitted with these
systems, it would be logical to assume that they are not legally required.

DfT produce a factsheet on aftermarket HID headlamps at
    http://www2.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roadsafety/drs/hidheadlamps.html although this
does not mention the 2000 lumen requirement.

I hope this information has assisted you with your enquiry, but if you have
any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us again.

    Kind Regards,
    Stephen
