Tho Victoria Prentis, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Farming, Fisheries and Food, did really well for our fishermen . Who wants to read a trade deal when you have a nativity to sort. Boris said it wasn’t something to be reprimanded over tho! https://www.theneweuropean.co.uk/brexit-news/westminster-news/victoria-prentis-brexit-deal-6903534
I think the fishing issue in Jersey is about the way French fishermen continued to fish for scallops and other shell fish around Jersey before the post Brexit licences were issued. Now licencing has come into force, they can only fish Jersey waters under licence and they are angry at the loss of income. Unlike France, Jersey is only a tiny fishery and wants to protect the seabed from scouring by the French fishermen who have no long term interest in protecting sea bed species. Jersey is understandably worried that very soon there will be nothing left for them to catch if the French carry on as they have been. This sort of conflict will probably get worse as countries squabble over access rights and depleted fish stocks. Meanwhile I'm sure our Navy are having a fun time off Jersey, good luck to them.
I suspect Boris planned the whole thing. What could any politician want more, just before some elections, than the opportunity to send in the gunboats? So much closer than the Falklands, everyone back in port the next day, result. I expect Island was second choice for a faux invasion. I'm surprised we didn't see him yesterday morning in Portsmouth with a giant cigar.
