Its time to say goodbye!

  1. I had the Bay for nearly 7 years and enjoyed every minute of it. Age started working against me and I struggled to complete the interior project. Meanwhile I have the MGB in the garage which deserved to be enjoyed more. Maybe the engine wreck in the Bay was meant to be and forced the sale, which I don't regret as after all I got a fair bit of money for it. My son has 2 T25's and of course I will be staying in touch with the vw scene and on TLB.

All of the Marmitety little ones that have one of them brown signs declaring it a “historic market town” , which roughly translates to “Marmitehole, populated by racist pensioners wearing wolf fleeces”

  10. I sold mine last year (march) put up on sites justkampers, pistonheads and carandclasic all for free. Had quite a few from overseas interested (it was a LHD) but sold it to a person who lives not from me. He brought it round a couple of weeks ago to show me now that its finished to his liking and spent £20,000 on it as he wants to keep it for his son who is 15! He also told me that its just been valued at £55,000!!!!I think thats way over the top but he was happy with what he had spent. Good luck with the sale.

  11. I think I might increase my insured value again this year....

  12. I’d love to know who valued it at that, though I expect it’ll be the company that did the resto.

  13. Although my son couldn't help with my Bay's predicament, he has a mate who restores our vans as a business and he bought it, so grateful for my son's help in a practical way and save me from messing about advertising it on the usual websites.

The van will be restored and with rising values, should make a decent profit.

  16. Assuming your bay wasn’t a complete basket case when you sold it to him. What on earth has he spent 20k on? Surely he could have bought a project for 5k if he was gonna pile that much into one in a year.

I’m very very sceptical about whether people genuinely get anywhere near the quoted value from an insurance company if they ever actually try to claim. The last time I had a van smashed up, the insurance company presented me with about a dozen examples of comparable vans and I had to settle on the one that I felt was closest to my written off one. I think it was worth about 8K at the time and they actually gave me a bit more for sign writing and racking etc. They were very fair but if I’d have claimed it was worth 12-16k they’d have laughed at me and said prove it.
