It doesn't look very happy, but maybe just drying off.

  2. Usually spread their wings to dry off. Maybe he was resting.

Slightly spread, that's why I wondered if it was ok. It was still there an hour later when it was getting dark. Too dark to see now.

Yep , they often do that to warm and dry off. They’re not very cheery birds :(

it looks a bit like a cormorant but they usually spread their wings wider, like a Dracula, to dry off. Maybe it was too cold to do that?

If you look at the base of it's tail, I wonder if a pike bit it, there are some big fish in the Marina.

It does look like it has lost half of it's tail.
We get several Cormorants on the lake down the road, must be a good supply of fish here, though no Pike.

It's making half hearted attempt to tidy it's feathers but mostly just standing there. I see plenty of ducks and coots on the jetty but never a cormorant before this one. I'll see what my twitcher neighbour thinks when I see him.

Hopefully it hasn't swallowed a fish hook, there are always anglers on the canal.

Can you throw it a fish, see if it eats it?
