Ordered a battery on eBay yesterday £3 something😄 Hopefully new phone will be here tomorrow was up for an upgrade anyway, thanks for advice was thinking it could've been something else, annoying pc doesn't see it or fire it up
If your computer is connected to a wireless router you can plug your phone into the charger/wall socket and sync via wifi. You need to select the option in the phone settings and the same on iTunes. Oh hang on, you can only do that once its connect.
Occasionally when switching it searches for wifi but to no avail 😄😄 searches for network to iPad still working so all is not lost, according to parceline tracking new iPhone should be here 4-5 pm 😄😄
Get the battery in first then you can eliminated other issues. Word of advice, be careful when lifting the glass out, the last thing you want to do is split the delicate ribbon connectors inside. There is a good guide on ifixit
Ok with that thanks. suction cup on glass home button end ,had a peep inside it yesterday but battery buried under motherboard , will leave until battery arrives Thanks I'll let you know how I get on
You can have a problem if you don't get the correct battery for the iPhone. They're our various build codes and if a incorrect battery is fitted the iPhone will eventually de charge and you won't be able to use it apart from when connected to a power cable. I had this very same issue and I found out the hard way. I had the phone to bits so many times I could put it back together with my eyes closed. I would seriously consider taking it to a Apple shop where they will advise and replace the battery for you. The money you save buying replacement batteries from eBay and then finding out that you're digitiser screen or home key does not work any more and before you know it you have a phone that completely won't work. I then started to buy new LCD screens and digitiser just to find out I couldn't get it to work at all. In the end I claimed on the house insurance and got a brand new iPhone 4S You have been warned.
Just to add to that I do hope that you get your phone working and I don't wish to be a kill joy but that was my experience and it was so frustrating.
It's good to hear other peoples experiences. I have replaced many screens, digitizers, batteries, cases on both the 3gs, 4 and 4s and can honestly say other than the first one I opened and didnt take enough care over, thus breaking the ribbon connections, I have not had any problems and saved hundreds of pounds. Apple care is expensive, Apple repairs are expensive.
right here goes it is a iphone 3gs i dont know what baceband its on or what os its on just guessing i think it has been jailbroken then it was updated with itunes this gave the searching... no service problem i have got roung this by useing resnow i get all the way to when the jailbreak takes over then i ge the 60000 ms giveing up then i pull my hair the wife gets peed of cos im in a bad mood cheer for me thread back it is a friends phone so no history all i know it was bought at xmas of the tinernet
If it has been updated to the recent iOS then you can only do a semi tethered jailbreak at the moment. This means if the phone turns off when you reboot you won't have any of the jailbreak functions, this can only be done when 'tethered' to a pc. Firstly you need to sort the signal thing before jailbreaking. You need to check the OS version. Go to settings > general > about - look for version. If its 5.1 then continue, if it's not 5.1 see section 2: 1) Use iTunes and do a complete backup/wipe/restore hopefully this will return your signal issue. Once this has got your signal back, then, you can try your jailbreak. Get over to ac1dsn0w.net and download the most recent tool and follow their instructions. 2) if the version is not 5.1 and is 5.01 or lower then you need to find the relevant IPSW for that version, I won't link to these but a simple google will show you the way. Once you have that then plug in and open iTunes, on the iPhone drop down right click, hold shift and click restore. This will give you the explorer, chose your downloaded IPSW. With any luck this will sort the signal error. As long as that is sorted you can then jailbreak as normal. WHICH EVER COMPUTER YOUR USING TO UPDATE THE IPHONE VIA ITUNES IS THE ONE IT IS TIED TO. IF YOUR USING YOUR OWN PC AND NOT YOUR FRIENDS THEN ANY JAILBREAK YOU PERFORM WILL BE WIPED. HIS PHONE MUST BE SYNCED WITH HIS ITUNES. I hope that has helped you.
You can do an untethered JB too but its on the IPad baseband and I would not recommend this as there is no going back.... But it does work as a last resort.... Might be able to help if you can tell us what baseband / firmware u have, ive JB a lot over the years and my ipad 2 The lack of signal : is it unlocked ? Im guessing not, so you have 2 options, 1 JB it then unlock it using ultrasn0w 2 get it unlocked by the carrier

Id suggest grabbing a free payg sim for each of the carriers and try a boot until u get a signal, then start the JB process and do the unlock, it does sound like a not yet unlocked issue to me.
