IOW Festival

  1. Anyone going to the Isle of Wight Festival, the local radio said earlier it was taking 7 hours to get from Ryde to Newport, normally a 20 min drive. The ferry ports were gridlocked earlier cos the island is traffic has backed up to the ferry port and the rain has proper smashed it down a few times today. Gonna be a muddy one for anyone who makes it.

  2. Not looking good. Big top tent evacuated tonight because of weather. :( And thats on the opening evening! As to the traffic queues - glad we are away from it! :p

Oh dear - looks like it was a good decision not to go.

  4. Had a load of mates in the pub last night who were heading off today so will wait for a1st hand account monday if they last that long, sat here listening to the wind howling outside with a smug look on my face.

  6. Ive been reading up on the forum and the main fb page and man alive i really feel for anyone that is having to endure the mare of being stuck going nowhere. Im hearing tales of people being stuck in their cars for nearly 15 hours without hardly moving. Ferries are backed up and its starting to back up back on the mainland terminals as well. Sounds like Solo have yet again failed to prepare for these conditions.

Hope all tha are going get there safely and have a top weekend.

  7. Nasty -

  8. It sounds like, even though Solo upped the allocation by 20.000, there has been little preperation for the conditions that have hit the island. Mate told me and iv also read this, that they only started putting the metal tracks down at the last minute. Why not just put them down come rain or shine? Its not going to fully solve any problem but at least it would have been in place allowing things to flow a bit smoother. People on fb are saying that its immposible to drive on to the car park fields and that cars etc are having to be towed in to the fields. Sod trying to get out of there on Monday morning judging by the hassle getting in. Really feel for everyone that is going. Even hearing rumours flying round that after the Big Top being evacuated that they are thinking of calling the festival off.

  9. Just been watchong it on tv news .the road is gridlocked with people stuck in there cars overnight without water ,toilets and somewhere to sleep

  11. It's a festival, in fields, in pouring rain - it happens.

  12. I must say IOW festival is probably at the bottom of the list for me anyway ... feel sorry for those going as wet and cold festivals are not fun - and being stuck in queues to get in .. poor people

  14. I was at Download a few weeks back and that was a muddy one. People moaning and groaning so i asked, have you been to a wet and muddy Glasto? To which the reply was, no! Well then i said, quit your moaning and enjoy :))

Mind you there is no excuse to the ******* poor organisation at the IOW

  16. Glastonbury - 1997 / 1998 / 2004 and 2009? I think are the wettest and muddiest I saw.

That said - I hate it when festivals are too hot ... Phoenix 96 was stupidly hot and there was no shade all weekend. Glasto 99 was so hot I burnt my legs and had to wear a dress all weekend to protect them from the heat and trouser fabric ...

  17. Phoenix 96 was a boiling hot one as well. Mix the heat with a belly full of pills and booze and it doesnt make for a good combo :))

  20. When I was in costa rica last year - I got caught in sinking mud .... my leg went in - and straight up to my groin - it was so scary ... took about 20 minutes to get out and thankfully i had my hiking boots on - if i had any other shoes on i would have lost them ...
