Indicator relay help

  1. Hi Everyone

I wasnt very hopefull for the camper getting through its MOT and thought that it would be another year before we could use him to come to meets with you all but he only failed on wipers (school boy error) and indicators.

I realised that the relay was as fauls and searched on here for how to solve this, the problem was my camper does not seem to have the 3 pin relay but had a 2 pin! I have included pics below and intend to replace with another 2 pin for the MOT but does anyone know why this may have been done?

    The 2 pin removed

My Fuse board!! I'm not sure where to start, o_O the two spade connectors in the top right corner were the two wire conected to the two pin relay, the white to the live and the other two wires (that are connected to one spade) were connected to the other pin on the relay.

The underneath on the fuse board with one square relay and the 3 pin hazads and indicators missing! Is it worth adding in a 3 pin to see what will happen?

Thanks for your help and now I hae a working computer I can become more of a part of this wonderful community

    Cheers

  2. A new standard relay will cost you £8.40 from GSF (I bought one yesterday) so it must be worth putting a standard one in to see if it works then remove that non standard wiring. The spade connectors should go into the top of the fuse box by the relevant fuse.

What are those badly connected red wires for?

I would get a wiring diagram and sort it out as it should be

  4. Thanks Neptune, will just go for it :) the badly connected red wire is for the radio i think, was thinking of taking the radio out and starting again with it or putting a new one in as the one I have is from the 80's with a tape deck, and the only tapes i own are Gloria Estefan (was my mum's honest) and Chef chocolate salty balls. The van needs bodywork though so want to spend money on that as I see radio as a luxury unless I find a cheaper second hand one :)

  5. What year is your van?

  6. Actually, looking at the pic, someone has pulled the 2 spades from the fuse-board... If you get a 3 pin relay, you'll have to plug it back in as is, but add an earth wire to pin 31 on the relay... and the double blue wires go to 49a

  7. Cheers Paul, Will give it a go, the van is a 1972, (early front end, shh!) :)

  8. Thought that it was a prototype... fusebox is different ;)

  9. My van has a 2-pin indicator relay. The van is an Aussie import and the relay used to dangle down behind the glove box. It stopped working but I couldn't find a new one, even in Australia. I eventually discovered that it would work Ok if it was oriented it in a specific way, so I taped it in place and it has continued to work ever since.

  10. Thats exactly how I found mine, just a'danglin. If I hold it upside down it works better, strange o_O

  11. Some of the relays are wired differently depending on your wireing. i had the right year and a brand new one and it still did not work alas i fitted th eold one after i found out it was loose inside so took it aprt fixed it and it worked. Inside is a connector that can work loose a bit of solder on it and its as good as new.
