In or Out?

  1. Just had one last thrash around the country in the bus before the salt go's down on the road and starts to eat it and the engine comes out for the winter for more work.

I really needed it, I have a thing about driving fast in a bay I like it more than any other vehicle I feel in control of it in a different way.

So what do you do with yours?

Lay it up sorn off the road inside?

Keep it off the road sorn out side?

Carrie on like its freezing and brave it using it as your daily ?

  2. we use ours all the year round

  3. Roads already salted here once, although only a slight frost.

As for winter use, I will carry on visiting my van at the painters, salt or no salt.

Funny enough l took mine out today for one last blast and moving stuff around before the engine comes out in December. Sorned to be declared when the tax runs out in December and then put away once the engine bay is all sorted. Should keep me busy for a few evenings over December :)

Been out today and hoping to go out most weekends. Got my heater, got my beanie, got my hot chocolate, got my waxoyl. Not my daily, but had less chances this year to get out in the van so hoping to make up for it.

I think there is nothing to beat driving on a crisp winters day with the windows open and a bit of music going :)

  6. Marge will be taxed and legal, ready to roll at any time, if I do take her out and suspect that there may have been salt on the road she will get a damned good power wash underneath (I have a good attachment on the Karcher which turns the water through 90 degrees) and she will then go in the heated garage with a fan blowing from front to rear, is this overkill?

  7. We have sorned Rusty and she is kind of in and kind of out! We have a car port on the side of the house which joins on to the neighbours side. It would go in the garage had we not converted that in to a big room for my eldest daughter. Helps her have privacy and stops her and her *******ed up mates waking us up at 3am.

Car port is good enough for us and Rusty as the frost doesnt get under there nor does the rain. She just gets cold bless her but im plaining to start her up once a week and maybe just back her up and down the drive way just to let her know we havent forgotton her. Now the cold is settling in i'll prob be found sitting in the back making a brew rather than sitting in the garden to have a smoke.

  8. Just waxoyled Reggie (mainly, and myself once or twice!) so though I would go out round the lanes to celebrate. Hadn't put the belly pans on so I think most of the heat in the pipe was cooled from underneath as it didn't get a hot as I like, but still very enjoyable.

Big sense of freedom in a van and you get to look over all those high hedges. Tax runs out in January so I think I might sneak out a few times before then. Even planing a Christmas Camp so hope not too much snow this year.

Reggie lives under a cover behind 6'-0" gates in my back yard, so might sorn it for a couple of months before next season (my first spring in a TLB)

Didn't see any other vans on my travels not even a T25, so I guess people do stop using them in the colder weather. (Even in the sunny South!!)

  9. Maggie is still constantly driven as our daily is currently of road due to computer issue (blinking modern cars).. But as soon as the Volvo is back on the road and it'll be time to clean and waxoyl Maggie again.

Although she will remain taxed and ready to use at a moment notice, she'll be parked in her little house... Not a heated garage, but is an idea!!

Still working to convert the double carport into a Garage... three side have been panelled out, just need to make a couple of garage doors.

  11. Tony is my daily along with barry bug
The bug is waxoil ed up
Won't get time to do tony and diago in the garage so he will have to ruff it this year he may get a rolling resto in the spring maybe

  12. daily for me and the mrs drives a 1970 bug daily too, we don't own anything other than aircooled

  13. Pinky gets used all year round. Was planning on putting her in the garage but have not had time to tidy / sort it out yet so she's outside on the drive. She spent all last winter on the road and seemed pretty happy - apart from a dead battery so fingers crossed she'll be ok

  15. Gavin will be available to drive all year round but I want to get the engine out over the winter. I want to check some of the breather pipes and some other stuff and use the opportunity to learn a bit more about the engine. Just need other half to help me, somethings I need extra strength for.

mine is outside on the drive and will be until mid December, i was going to sorn it originally at the end of October, but, i decided against it because it's been so mild, i'm glad i did, i've been a lovely run out today (pic's later) and it cheered me up no end, it's going inside at work over December i'll sorn it for January and do the jobs on it over the xmas break and during January, i'm then going to re-tax it Feb 1st and use it on nice days but leave it inside work during the winter.

  17. No garage, (flat in shepherds bush) so outside all year round. Think I'm going to go for pro waxoyl job (blast all the old underseal off) Heatr going in soon. Winter trundles and hot chocolate in the back :))

  18. Im working all through winter no matter what the weather so i can have the bus in for mot and usuable by march

Ive worked outdoors in awfull conditions for many years and id rather not do it
However if i stop the resto now and start when the weathers reasonable then i will be facing another summer in the tent

All year round, perhaps if we had to pay for tax it would be another matter.
