ICT Fuel Line Run and Malpassi Location

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Spacecowboyuk, Aug 11, 2020.

  1. Evening all

After some delays (head studs etc) and waiting for parts I'm getting super close to finishing my ICT install.

I've just two fuel lines to run and the install of the Malpassi Petrol King. Two questions:
    1. Given bends in fuel pipe contribute to it's destruction, how am I best running from the left carb back to the middle-ish of the engine? For example do I loop back underneath the carb or on top between it and the Air Filter?
    2. What is the best location for the Malpassi and am I best mounting it above the carbs or below the carb bowl plane? Read something about siphoning...
    Its a 2.0 Type 4 engine btw.

    Thanks!

  2. What fuel pump are you using? You can buy total ethanol resistant rubber pipe so no issue I'm installing twin DRLA 36's and looking to mount malpassi filter either on left hand side or middle of firewall [IMG]

  3. Or this but the fuel pump has to be lower than tank[IMG]

  4. I'm running the stock pump for now so stock placement on the bottom of the block:thumbsup:

  5. Mount it somewhere that doesn't vibrate, not the fan housing.

Mine is on the bit under the spare wheel

There are a few threads on this and people have posted up pictures of their malapassi location

  6. Stock should be good, go left by spare wheel

  7. I've done a search and everyone seems to mount high but I saw one post saying mount below the float bowls sooo...

It's a Type 4 engine so fan housing not and option. Sounds like i can pretty much mount where I like as long as it's not a vibrating hell hole?

  8. Mine is below the float bowl and works fine

  9. The best route is the least connections and angles, so smooth flow lines

  10. Sorry to jump on your thread, but it seems a good place to ask on this subject. Whats peoples opinions of pipe length from the piece? Equal or doesnt matter? thanks,

Mine's mounted on the tin umder the firewall. Comes out with the engine which I favour.

  12. This is where I decided mine would be mounted too for the exact same reason in fact. Cheers

  13. Funnily enough I was also thinking it had to be equidistant from each carb and spoke to Dellorto about this. They said it doesn't make a big difference but looks nicer. In @zedders pic up there ^ his 'Ts' off unequally as do most pics I've seen so thats what i am going to do too.

  14. This is how I have run mine, zip tied to the balance pipe which is attached to the firewall.

Location of the reg was mainly down to pre drilled holes. [IMG]

  15. That looks exactly how wayoutwestie mounts them

You should probably block that warm air feed for the original carbs. Something like this.

  18. Cheers bud, i will get onto this tonight, wasn't sure if i was required to be blocked off, but to be honest its been like that since i got the bus.

One for this weeks job's list, thank you :)

Left open it's a duct to the hottest blown air that's just cooled the heads. While I have no measured idea how much hot air would be sucked up from there by the cooling fan and carbs + being blown from below...it must be worth blocking, as are any holes and gaps elsewhere. In terms of every little helps, this is a big one.

I found it easiest to leave the connecting duct as it fills a rather awkward hole lower down. It's fiddly because the captive nuts are on the piece (I) removed, but leaving it in place and blocking it off is just as good. I removed mine in the name of de-cluttering and while the engine was out it was easy to nut and bolt it.

That exactly what I did. Did you block off the hole in the tin by the cylinder at the other end? I left mine open.
