  10. great idea.....needs some kind of theme to attract funding/publicity, unless people fancy doing it for the fun of it....
i know years ago, some of the Lancs-based Scooter boys started doing an easter egg run taking, yes , you've guessed it, easter eggs, to kids in hospital.....now an annual national event and really well attended...

I've contacted VW Head Office in Milton Keynes and spoken to one of their head honchos. She liked the idea and has asked their publicity and events department to contact me to give me the address of every dealer in the country.
Once I get that information I'll plot them on a map and put the information up on here.

Once it's here we can all choose a VW dealer to visit and I can start to work on the actual route the torch should take.

Using dealers means that we have a safe location for the torch for overnight stops and also if the giving and receiving torch bearers cannot actually meet in person at the dealers for whatever reason.

Children in Need is in November and as they spend the donated money nationally and we are spread throughout the country I think that almost everyone could happily raise money for it. No decision has been made about which charity, or even if we do it for a charity at all so please put your thoughts forward both about the idea and the charity.

Can anyone think of a snappy name for our relay?

  14. Nice one sandybay look like it may come together.

I think children in need is probably the best bet charity wise for the reasons you said and who resents making money for children.......,( in fact don't answer that;) as I know they spend all my wage :) )

only problem I can see is would it be organised for then as there is probably more than u think to sort out.

I agree, we will need some luck and a following wind but I think it'll be possible. I'll chase up VW this week to get the dealer list.
One of the questions she asked me was do we want commercial dealers or passenger vehicle dealers which stumped me a bit, I don't even know how many dealers they have in total. She did say that our vans are classified as commercial vehicles by VW.
I think once we get a definitive answer to how many dealers we're talking about we can make a more informed decision.

    Good work Bob

  17. There will be a lot less commercial dealers I would think meaning longer stints but less vans needed

  18. And as for a name I am shocking at stuff like that but
    "Transporter trawl" came to mind

  19. "Bus boogie", but I'll bet you'll struggle with distances between dealers in the Scotlandshire.
And my local one, in Loughborough is a right soul-less *****er.

We should be sponsored by the AA - after all, it is a relay :)
